[quote=wunky]i've seen them live. they were good, but i honestly expected them to be a bit better. having said that, i saw them in september 2005, about four weeks before they kicked out tarja so maybe that was just inter-band tensions filtering through.[quote]

I went to the same concert, but i my opinion all the chemistry was there & was an exceptional concert (maybe it was all an act I'm not sure). But then again it was the only time I've seen them live. I thought the live performances of tracks such a 'Wishmaster' & 'Nemo' were much better than on CD. Or perhaps I just felt like that because I was all hyped up. Not sure. The only moment of disapointment i got was when I collapsed & was taken to the ambulance during 'Ghost Love Score' because that is my absolute favourite song. Meh, they managed to entertain me throughout the night & my friends were kind enough to scoop me up some of the confetti from 'Wish I Had An Angel' which I have in a box on my desk

And, yeah, I think Within Temptation has a better vocalist (Leave's Eyes too, but I just can't stand the music for some reason) but Tarja is trained for an operatic voice. I just love the opera

Bah everyone says that but in reality if there was no Tuomas, Nightwish would be well & truely dead. True they aren't going to be the same, but it's best to keep your mind open about what's coming up, it could be better than expected!

Okay, I found some stuff, those songs you suggested. They're okay, I don't think I'd go out and buy anything of theirs though.

It's a pet hate. It was disgusting the amount of death threats Tuomas recieved via the guest book as soon as the letter came out to the world. I immediately spouted my rage at all those who wanted to commit vile acts of violence upon the man who is the backbone of that band. Fair enough it was a shock & she did have a good voice, but at the end of the day, she didn't write the music or songs nor did she start the band, at the end of the day she was just the lead singer with the tremendous voice.

Xandria... I'll take a note of the band name and see if I can... umm... aquire a track or two. I love opera too (no wonder, I'm an opera singer, so... it'd be bad if I didn't)

She_Is_My_Sin,

When did Tuomas get these death threats? , that is really out of order that these people were sending threatening messages in the guest book, like you said Tuomas is the founding member and backbone of the band.

I read in an article somewhere that it was a really difficult desicion for the band to make. (I think this was in Metal Hammer or Terrorizer, I`m not sure)

Did you ever read the interview with Tarja`s manager/husband Marcello on Tarja`s website, about her departure from the band?

Its quite interesting !!!

They appeared after the letter was released & then it sort of melted into pining for Tarja.
I read a bit but he went on & i got bored. I heard that Tarja has put some un-released tracks on her site, I'll have to investigate.

She_Is_My_Sin, perhaps you're right...it doesnt matter who replaces Tarja, in the end...its all the other components that make the band as stellar as it is...and people sending death threats are retards, to say the least...sad sad sad...
oh well, back to burning the heads off barbie dolls for me!

*but just so you know, i'm still sad that she's gone!

She_is_my_sin,

I was reading that interview, we were talking about, and it indicated that the band were not very close, as friends. Yet, did`nt Tuomas know Tarja from school ???

I was wondering what your impression was of it all ?

They knew each other at school, but they weren't great friends. Tuomas' mother used to teach Tarja piano & that's how they knew one another. As she was one of the few girls in the school, her singing efforts were always encouraged, hence why Tuomas remembered her for when he wanted his own band with female vocals.
But I guess towards the end their relationship was dwindling, Tarja had to finish her studies (she got properly trained in classical singing) & I guess she needed to spend time with her husband too. *shrugs shoulders* from what I know I guess other factors were driving them apart.

I like Nigtwish but I haven't heard that many of their songs to name one as my favourite. I love Tarja's voice its a pity she isn't with them any more.

I do enjoy them very much, but they're one of those oh so common cases of a band being destroyed by their annoying fan base.
