If this were California, this topic would be a bummer.

Run a virus sweep, quarrantine/delete whatever your software finds, and make sure your firewall and anti-viral/anti-spyware software is up to date. If you're still getting those warning messages when you visit the site, it's time for an ad blocking software.

Yeah it (avg) tells me to quarantine it and I have been everytime I get it. It's getting really annoying though it pops up everytime I load a page on here (and only on here, only with that banner ad)

Can you suggest some ad blocking software for me please? It kind of has to be free.

That depends entirely upon whether or not they have one ad supplier or several. One of the ads that I frequently get on the left-hand side of the forum is a text-based Google ad. If all the forum ads are run through Google, then the admins might not have much of a choice in what goes up--Google would be the controlling factor there. If they had multiple ad contributers, they might have more leeway to pick and choose. Regardless, are you sure that the problem is an ad on this forum, and not spyware you picked up from browsing other sites? =/

ETA: No, I can't rec free adblocking, virus sweep, or anti-spyware software. I rely upon Norton and Webroot to keep my comp clean, and it works pretty well. They're relatively inexpensive, too, which is a plus.

If you're using Firefox as a broswer, I think they have a few add-ons that block ads and keep pop-ups and banner ads from downloading spyware and cookies on your comp. You could look into that, I guess, though if you're using IE, Opera, or Safari (I think that's the Mac OSX one, right?) then that won't be much help to you.

Oh, no, its definitly the banner ad at the bottom. It only shows up on here with that banner ad (when I close this site, specifically, it stops)
I use AVG, I used to have norton it didn't protect me very well and slowed down my computer.
I just set IE so that it blocks objectionable content and its blocking the banner ad but its also making it so I have to type in a password for every other website, and I have to run gmail in basic html. =|
Its not the google list type, its the kind that's running on the bottom, the one thats a picture......

Actualy a trick I learned years ago back when we had dialup and America online (it was one of their tech support people who told us) was to simply delete the temporary internet files(do the cookies too if that doesn't work). That's how most popups work and it appears to have fixed the problem because I had the same popup issue as you 2 days ago and now it's gone away. You wouldn't believe the amount of popups we had comming up from that instance.

A good anti-virus does the job.

What browser are you using?

If you're using Internet Explorer, then I pity you. The best you can do is to go Tools > Internet Options > Security > Restricted Websites and click on "Sites". Then add the following websites:

zedo.com
doubleclick.net
casualmedia.com
pointroll.com
opinionlab.com
googlesyndication.com

If you're using Firefox, install AdBlock Plus and Ablock Filterset.G Updater.

Alternatively, if you're really desperate, modify your HOSTS file to include this. The instructions are http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm.

Finally, to get rid of any viruses on your comp, I'd recommend http://www.clamwin.com/ or http://free.grisoft.com/.

Thank you! I was thinking I would end up being the only person with the problem and feel like an idiot.
Okay, I will try doing that it seems the simplest thing to do and if it doesn't work, I will do something the others have suggested.

I actually stopped coming to this site about month ago because one of the pop-ups put such a nasty virus on my WORK computer, that IT had to completely wipe my hard drive and re-install everything. It took them 6 house and they were P*SSED.
