You idiots won't shut up about steampunk.

Quit it. You're being retard fashionistas trying to appropriate something else.

Yes, 'steampunk fashion' is cool. You don't obsess about it. It's become a trend here.

It's the exact same thing as a preppy girl 'goes gothic,' except you all want to 'go steampunk.'

In other words, stop being wannabes. It's annoying as fuck.

I like steampunk. But I honestly think anyone who decides to follow any trend bcause others are doing it at that point in time needs a slap...

yeah, it's fine to re-discover yourself, but if you're changing style just for the sake of impressing people than what the hell's the point.

Wait, is there some actual steampunk culture that I don't know about? Because otherwise then it's just a style of clothing. And clothing trends will always exist, whether it's the romantigoth look or cyber goth or steampunk, and I don't understand why people can't experiment with new styles. A prep "going goth" is trying to be something they're not; a goth dressing steampunk is just experimenting with fashion.

My style ranges from Victorian/period inspired, to old school goth, to deathrock. Am I a wannabee on three counts then because I vary my style?

I think getting defensive about people's interest in a style of fashion as if one owns the patent for an entire style is just as retarded as blindly following trends, if not moreso.

Apparently it's mixing Victoria and futuristic or cyber fashions together.

Did I miss something? Because I haven't noticed any of this 'going Steampunk' business.

Sure, there's been a bit of discussion on it, but no one's traipsed down to Steampunk Topic to load up on low quality, expensive and unoriginal Steampunk gear then bragged about how so very very Steampunk they are. What's wrong with a bit of interest in an often-overlooked style?

It's not at all often-overlooked. The Boston Globe had an article on it.

And it's the fact that people are acting in what I perceived to be them asking "HALP HOW DO I DRESS STEAMPUNK" rather than dressing in a manner that comes naturally.

Similar to when a MCR kid comes onto the site and asks about how ot dress gothic because it's an oh-so-cool fashion trend.

Hmm. odd, I was expecting some type of 'nazi' comment from you (ie. If someone wants to dress steampunk, let them, you damn nazis!). Is it just me or do I sense contradicting statments?

Steampunks typically express interest and fascination in a Victorian past that wasn't. There appears to be a particular romance about the fictitious world of Jules Verne. Fashion is merely a media of expression for those who truely do submerse themselves in Victorian science fiction.

In my opinion, those who play dress up without any real interest in Stempunk literature, are what you would call 'poseurs'.

It's not about fashion. For those who think it is, stop posing for a minute and do some research.

Umm how about no? I don't care about steampunk (nor do I care about what it really), I do however love Victorian Literature, thank you.

Excuse me? That was bloody childish as hell. But I'm going to be a big person here and let that go.
I meant no as in I am not planning to do any research on culture/style I really don't give a damn about.
I never pose, only strut.

Well then, thank you for the clarification. Now that we have established that you don't give a damn, don't try to define something you know nothing about. It only makes you look like an uninformed fool.

Oh and Hi Maggz!

It's really childish to say "I'm gonna be the big person and let that go," because you clearly are not, and you're clearly sinking to their level.

Sorry, but it's always annoyed the hell out of me.

*raises hand*

Must be my fault. As far as I know, I'm the biggest advocate of Steampunk. What can I say? I find the shit fascinating. I can't wait to see The Golden Compass.

But hey, the only claim I have for liking steampunk is liking the movies Time Machine and all that I suppose. I'm such a poseur. I'm not allowed to experiment with fashion. Hell, no one is. ^___^

I'm more interested in what musicians are trying to do with the idea of steampunk music. Vernian Process is just friggin' awesome.

There is a difference between finding the shit fascinating and playing dress up because it looks cool.

C'mon, Saddi, that shit DOES look cool.

Forgive me, I just can't find myself giving a damn what people wear anymore and whether they're ethically allowed to or not.

I once read this thing on the bathroom wall at this punk dive bar I went to.

"Fuck punk. Be yourself."

Fuck goth, punk, steampunk, rivethead, ect. Be yourself. Have fun for a change.
