It's really vague, but as a trend you know better than to equate socialism with command economy.
Thus, a socialist society would be as liberating as possible, and this definitely includes fashion, as fashion is one of the best means of self-expression.
Definitely, you would not see consumerism as we know it and probably DIY would become more popular. But if you want a more strictly utilitarian and neutral answer, I believe I told Despanan once that the only way fashion and other commodities like that would suffer is if the present circumstances of a society limit resources too much that wants of a few have to be sacrificed for the needs of all. Nothing most people would disagree with; it's much more important for people to have bread than to have butter. Do remember that htese are extenuating circumstances, not the norm. The whole point of socialism is based on the (well-grounded) idea that there is enough wealth in the world to go around; that scarcity is a social construct.

LMFAO! Spoken like a true socialist/leftie. And hence the reason why obongo will be booted out of office next term. What makes you think most Americans (goth or not) would go for such ridiculous socialism? Totally absurd.
Now, to answer the OP's question: Au contraire, mon ami. In a socialist society you will NEVER be able to, **chuckles** "express" yourself. LOL! Don't kid yourself and don't listen to these socialists who preach egalitarian propaganda. It basically means that YOU will be expected to dress and look just like every one else; this is essentially what egalitarianism implies.
Remember, OP, there is NO such thing as equality: it does not exist in nature and therefore should not exist in society. These lefties like to play God and tamper with nature and declare all men equal - except themselves. As a result, you are seeing the result of their short sightedness in a balkanized America, which will soon partition into ethno-states with a real possibility of civil war.
