Honestly you people wouldn't be so universally reviled by anyone and everyone under the sun if you stopped getting so butthurt whenever anyone criticized you. The mark of an educated mind is the ability to entertain an idea with out accepting it ie: PLENTY of people are going to consider the "furry position" (ew) and be similarly repulsed. It doesn't mean they aren't open-minded it just means they're different (and probably smarter) than you.

Trust me, I get it. Some of you got your rocks off the first couple of times, by humping a teddy bear. Some of you, really, really (REALLY) like sonic the hedgehog, some of you, have simply never, ever felt like a part of a community before you found furry, and for the first time, in a crowd of aspergers riddled bottom-feeders you were accepted.

Great. The yearning for community is a natural human trait. It's why we go to church. It's why we hit up industrial nights, it's why we do open mics, and far be it from me, to want to take that away from you.

That doesn't mean it isn't massively rude for you to throw your nuts in my face. That doesn't mean you get to "educate" me on your fandom, or sigh at how close-minded I am. That makes you no better than curbside evangelist handing out pamphlets to the sinners.

You do seem to know a bit more about the fandom than I had realized at first. Also realize that many in the fandom can also laugh at it, we know it can be "thuper lame" as you put it, that is part of the fun, being able to be silly and laugh at things a bit. I mean, really how can you look a a rainbow colored dog prancing about with sparklies in their fur and multiple tails or a horse in fishnets and NOT think it is funny?

also, for the record, my first posts in response to the OP were more about trying to let the OP know as gently as possible the why's and wherefores of the bitchy, mean-spirited responses he would inevitably recieve on a forum like this, rooted in a sub-culture full of elitist snobbery who revel in clever put downs and social warfare. Hilarity to be found in that, too.

not trying to throw a lifestyle at you, or "nuts in your face", lots of groups do that, even *gasp* goths... hence the 13 year old in black and massive amounts of eyeliner, trying to shoot angsty, dark looks down their nose whilst "projecting" silence and drama about a room.

my point is that perceptions of groups come from those that stand out the most, i.e. the furries that insist on fursuiting in general public spaces, the goths that screw up their makeup the worst, the evangelicals who thrust pamplets at innocent passersby and invade your front doorstep, the evolutionist atheists who refuse to consider, loudly and at length how stupid someone who believes there is a God who might have had a hand in making our world must be, the fashonista who wouldn't be caught dead in less than chanel and gucci and does everything to advertise the brands she wears, the punk that condemns capitalism while consuming a fast food burger, etc.

The examples are endless.

also, this --> "The mark of an educated mind is the ability to entertain an idea with out accepting it" is a great truth, I whole heartedly agree, and it was in search of learning and postponement of judgement that I went to the con in the first place. Got to see it first hand, the good and bad, ugly and beautiful, and complete insanity that all were part of it.

anyway, my comments were not personally directed at you the way yours were directed at me. that was the primary thing I took issue with above. I realize now that is perhaps not how it was intended? More just venting at the generalities covered in the thread, rather than the specific comments quoted? Didn't mean to sound preachy either, that is merely a bad habit on my part.
