That's kind of the point. But that's sort of the reason I fucking hate Catcher in the Rye.

... I guess if you're the kind of person who hates The Stranger, that qualifies as a good comeback. *reshapes own copy into dildo*

I try to avoid books I think I will hate, so I only have one.

J-Pod by Douglass Coupland. I think I just hate Douglass Coupland though. I hate an author who writes himself into a fiction novel and builds himself up so much. I only read it because it had lots of random things about Ronald McDonald killing people and Mandarin script in huge letters and 5 pages of numbers and another five pages of just '0's....it looked so promising while flipping through it. At least I didnt have to pay for it..

The whole Twilight series is a total put-down of the vampire world. I hate it with a passion. Practically any young-adult novel one could find in a library/book store. I'm very picky with what I read. All the reads that are worth it can be found in the classical section or modern stories with the most unusual of writers.

for me it's "The Vampire Diaries" series i fucking hate those books they even had the balls to make a show out of them.
I like twilight(yes i do) but i don't like the movies that much only the books because the movies fuck up some parts.
Reading the Vamp diaries is like extracting teeth. I did like twilight because she did something different with her vampires.

Danielle Steel - same old same old
Jodie Picoult - tried to read one of her books, but found it predictable.
The time traveller's wife - Audrey ??? - got bored 3/4 of the way through.
Dan Brown - please no. I read the first chapter and forgot to read the rest of the book (husband suffered through 3 or 4 of them and said they were all the same).
The Immortal series - the lead character does stupid things.

If I wasn't writing YA, I would stop reading it.

Seriously, if you say Twilight as the book you hate, I can't respect the books you love.

I'm not saying I like Twilight. I'm saying your knowledge of literature is fucking petty that you can't think of an actual important work you just happen to hate, so you go with the easy choice; no different than saying you like Edgar AllEn Poe.

(I'm not talking directly at you, OnyxBat. I'm talking to everyone that said Twilight.)

It's alright but I can tell you why ever one says twilight...
You turn on your damn tv and you see TWILIGHT!
You go to your local book store and you see TWLIGHT!
You have a book disscuion and a brainless bimbo compares everything to TWLIGHT!
So that's why,
but I can tell you one classic that I hate, the scarlet letter
and All of Homers work.
I'm just a big fan of classic books I really love most of them.
And just for a fact my knowledge of literature is not petty at all it's rather bigger and open

There you go, that's way better. And I'm with you on the Scarlet Letter.

I cannot recall the titles because I have repressed them
from memory. But many a day I have spent tearing up books while screaming you thief of time!!!! one comes to mind: Robert frosts work. I hated him! although i read one of his poems the other day, and I cryed...I think I must have been feeling quaint and overly emotional

Thx alan, it's such a big waste of time to read that book! It just drones on about Hester Prinne!

How could you hate The Stranger? That was the one and only enjoyable book in my AP English Lit class. His lack of heart and emotional failure made him a very interesting person, in my opinion.

Are you referring to Christine Feehan books? I personally thought that her books weren't all that bad. At least she gave her characters a measure of depth, unlike the drivel from Stephanie Meyer.

I didn't really like Dorian Gray. The plot was cool, I just don't give enough of a shit about ancient fancy tapestries to want to read three chapters describing it. Also, I came to hate Lord Henry. Which I guess is a sign of good writing, considering I've invested emotions into a character, but I just thought it was boring.

Meyer did a good job of writing a book while looking after three kids, one which wasn't sleeping through the night. I admire her for that.

I'll level with you, I thought it was crap, I know it was crap, but hey, I actually finished that book. I wish I could shut my brain off sometimes and enjoy something stupid and smutty, but I just can't and I give up on books halfway through, I did this with the True Blood book (Dead Until Dark?) and I hated Bitten too much to pick up any more Kelly Armstrong books.

But I think if I ever found more of Feehan's books, I might actually read them. Its painful but its entertaining, and not totally in a "its so bad its funny" way. So, yeah, I agree with you that her characters had more, well, character, but when Twilight came out it just reminded me of that, just an even shittier version.
