But what's the 'good effect' of smoking that outweighs the health problems?

(And hey, red wine has health benefits in small amounts... not all alcohol is bad for you)

You'll probably laugh, but I red in an article once that there is some evidence that suggests that smoking offers protection against Parkinson's disease. Smoking also sometimes helps people who have had strokes, as CO inhibits blood clots forming. Apparently smoking also reduces the risk of Alzheimer's, but I'm can't remember where I heard that one.

Well, I have on occasion heard people going on about that great night they had when everyone smoked some weed. Heh. Back to cigarettes though...The only cigarettes I've ever really liked the taste of were cloves though. Though I liked the taste, they still didn't do anything for me and still made me sick.

You're a fool.
It's not the death one should worry about, it's the premature aging and stinking.
A burning cigarette may smell good, but a smoker does not.
Smokers smell and taste horrible.
Smoking also really takes a toll on a woman's looks.

So instead of accepting your mortality, accept that at 35 you're going to look like a chalky, wrinkled piece of leather with stained yellow fingers and teeth who smells like a used ashtray as she hacks in public and puff away!

Alcohol is nowhere near as deleterious to one's health as tobacco, though-- the correlation between drinking and, say, a fatal liver complication isn't nearly as high as that between smoking and lung cancer. Also, while someone who gets smashed once a weekend might be considered a 'drinker', 'smokers' generally smoke throughout every day, consuming way more tobacco than the average drinker does alcohol. That's the reason cigarette addiction is so much more prevalent than alcoholism.

Plus, as Cicero said, even someone who doesn't drink can comprehend why to do so might be fun. The appeal of smoking still alludes me.

Weed's a different case. Although a joint or a blunt can contain tar as cigarettes do, vaporizers, bongs and other pieces have been shown to mostly mitigate this problem. Morover, only really chronic stoners smoke as much weed as cigarette smokers do tobacco.

I suppose you're right, I can't get past the fact that there really is no real reason to smoke.

To add to this, if you smoke in your house, you won't be able to have anyone who's heavily allergic to smoke over, since the smell sinks into -everything- around a smoker: The walls, the furniture, the carpet, etc.

I can't go to my sister's house for that exact reason; both the hubby and I are highly allergic. Then she fusses at us for not caring! Bah! >=(

A rolling paper reccomendation: Rizzla fine (blue pack) or extra fine (silver pack). They're more often used for ganja, which is why I have them, but they're the cleanest handroll paper smoke I've ever had. I would suggest starting with regular fines first though, as the extra fines are so thin they're see-through, and prone to tearing.

Cannaboids have now been found to reduce the risk of alzheimer's, is that what you're thinking about?

I had a housemate who smoked, and it usually wasn't a problem because she'd keep it either outside or at the window of her bedroom. But what fucking annoyed me was when the smell got caught in my cat's fur. Made him un-snuggle-able.

I don't mind smoke of most sorts at all, but I agree that if my cat smelled like an ashtray that would piss me right off.

Then I quit because I have no money.

Ehh, why I am I being harassed!?
I accept my mortality, and when I die, whatever I die from, will be just dandy.
I-accept-it.

Personally, I smoke a pack of Blacks a week AT MOST.
I loathe the smell of any cigarette that isn't clove.
Even though it's more unhealthy or whatever.

I burn so much incense that anything I'm smoking [ganja or clove] just kinda gets all rolled up into a singularly good smelling aroma.

Aside from occasionally smoking and drinking, I eat veg other than my sushi obsession... I exercise. I try to balance my health scale that way.

It's still an addiction AND smoking out of habit. Just thought I'd point that out real quick.

With that, I actually tried smoking but it just doesn't do anything for me healthwise. Not to mention that my pop and some of my aunts smoke like chimneys.

Black don't crack and I intend to keep it that way by not smoking anymore.

Pointing out facts, but why just my post?

That's true, but you're the only one glorifying it, and you're the only one who seems to think that it only affects you by killing you.

It also turns you into a dried up piece of leather with a stench.

So you don't give a shit whether you die tomorrow or not? If so, then I guess you're a badass. If not, then you'll regret smoking some 30 odd years from now, when it'll kill you decades early.

Exercising will do nothing to prevent the onset of smoking-related ailments.

You're also the only one making truly idiotic assertions, such as that people who would rather not smoke and live longer don't 'accept mortality', or that exercising will 'balance out' a tobacco habit. At that point, it's not a matter of anyone not respecting your personal choice, it's a matter of you being objectively stupid.

Not glorifying anything.

I can only speak for myself, maxi. Other people and their belief's on life are their business. I'm perfectly fine with dying tomorrow. Guess that makes me a badass.

OF COURSE exercise won't do MUCH. I am not stupid, objectively or otherwise.
But balancing vice with diet/exercise/health is better than the scale tipping wholly into the vice column.

And, a tad off topic.
Is this not a site for CONVERSATION not picking the fuck out of other's posts for some unknowable reason?

Let's move on, shall we?
