It's about damn time.
Now THAT is something I'm looking forward to!

I already saw a trailer for it a couple weeks ago.

The only recent shows I'm looking forward to are 'V for Vendetta' because I read the comic and liked it. And the next X-Men movie, come on! Kelsy Grahmer as The Beast? Who doesn't want to see it?

Back in May 2001, I remember seeing some "Biography"-type documentary show on M.S.N.B.C. that had an episode on the life of Sylvester Stallone. Among the facts about Mr. Rambo's life was a screenplay-treatment he wrote for a biography film that was shelved away for years. The screenplay was about the life of 19th Century U.$. Gothic writer Edgar Allan Poe. If that film ever gets made, gets released in theatres or both, that would be a flick worth fucking seeing.

[Thank goodness for photographic memory.]

Until that day arrives, there's the next best thing--coming up in April: "The Notorious Bettie Page"!

Will people actually go see this? Yes, they will and that is sad. People will watch any crap that Hollywood will throw at them.

Fucking sad!
this movie was made because everywhere you go, from grocery stores to gas stations, there's a fucking t-shirt, or ball cap or bumper sticker or poster, and usually a display stand of all the above, with "git'r done" plastered all over it. and stupid rednecks buy this stupid shit because they think that stupid redneck is fucking funny. he's made millions off of a catch-phrase, that probably isn't even originally his to begin with.

I think you have to be part Redneck to find it amusing..

It's really only funny when you can listen to him and say;

" OH SHIT, THATS UNCLE BOB!!"

Larry the cable guy funny? Maybe in the "oh my god, I can't believe he's so fucking stupid.....holy shit, I can because I KNOW people that stupid" kind of funny, but not in the "he's a funny comedian" kind of funny.....

As for the Bettie Page thing....the fact that it's being made by the same girl that did "I Shot Andy Warhol" and "American Psycho" makes me curious......"I Shot..." is fucking awesome (Lili Taylor, I love you because of this film and "Dogfight"), and "American Psycho" is....ummm.....different.....still unsure whether I care for it or not, but it's good for what it is.

ExDis-whilst your excuse-making for the industry is amusing at best, you're totally skipping out on the hegemonical effect that the Hollywood industry has upon film-making both within the United States and outside it.

Whilst it's true that there are different studios, they tend to work in tandem with each other as far as the business side of it is concerned. The obvious example is the "Blockbuster" effect......Blockbuster won't carry NC-17 films (a rating that was to denote films that were a bit more risque than your average fare, but were not porn). So not only does this mean that the studios won't jump all over the chance to make said riskier fare. This means that any film deemed "controversial" won't make the cut for major studio distribution (most studios don't directly finance the making of films. Thus one could easilly say that Spielberg is the most succesful indie director ever, since his films are only distributed, and not paid for by Universal).

As for distribution...how many small revue theatres are around where you live? How many smaller thewatre chains are there in, for example, Montana? Or Tennessee? So these "riskier" films that don't get picked up by a major studio usually has no chance of distribution at all. Except on video, where we get into another problem...

When a film rolls over for rental distribution, studios will also edit films down to Blockbuster-friendly editions and Directors cuts. Sounds good so far, right? Wrong. The problem is that nobody except video-stores are even TOLD about the fact that there are two different cuts of the film, and the Blockbuster-friendly cuts tend to be cheaper (not by much, mind you, but enough for smaller video stores who don't have much capitol to choose the Blockbuster-friendly version). And when people rent films, they do tend to go to Blockbuster or Hollywood, and skip out on the smaller mom-and-pop type shops. (One can argue for Netflix, and whilst I for the most part don't have any problem with them, how many people actually own a computer? More people than, say, 5 years ago, yes, but there's still a lot that don't....not to mention that Netflix just doesn't have the volume of films I'd expect from an online video shop, but that's just a personal opinion, so take that as you may).

We can also explain the difference between American edits of foreign films and the original cuts (Hong Kong films tend to get it the worst), but Considering that studios have gone after distributors of foreign films that they own the American distributiuon rights to (the law here is actually on the distributor/importers right......if the cut of the film is in any way different from the version being distributed by the major studio, then copyright laws do not apply. So how do the studios go after people? Sue them and pull them into bankruptcy), then we really can't since those original cuts of the films do not exist as far as most people here are concerned.

I could bring up many, many other examples, but I hope the point of "choice" and "there are many studios, and they don't work together" never gets brought up again.

I've recently been subjected, via TV, to previews for 'Larry The Cable Guy'.

I'm scared.

You clarifying that you meant it as entertainment in general is a good counter to my argument, but you just gave up.

Look, perhaps I may be a bit grating with my opinion and I tend to have a loud voice about it, but that in no way means that I'm not taking what you're saying into consideration. However you've shown nothing to help back up what you were just saying and you wern't very clear up until right now about what you were trying to say.

Don't give up already. Your opinion is just as important as mine, even if I'm more abrasive about my own.
I didn't mean to give up so easily. I just have a very difficult time putting thoughts into words. So, rather then make myself look like an idiot I just don't say anything.
And, your a little intimidating hehe. Oh well, there's always next time.
