Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

Cradle Of Filth is back
Hey there
Did u buy the latest Cradle Of Filth album? (Godspeed on the devils thunder)
As we know their 2006 album Thornography was not that good
I think they knew about it coz the new album is pretty amazing
Its a mixture of Dusk and her embrace & Midian album
It sounds like old school cradle of filth work
I bought the album and enjoyed it
Its like cradle of filth is back
U can listen 2 some of the new songs on www.cradleoffilth.com
or on their myspace official page
And then tell me ur opinions plz

I agree. It is their best since Midian and caught me gleefully off guard.
Not a lot of Cradle fans here though. You know how cool it is to hate those guys.

I like the new stuff, but I prefer the Midian days. Thornography was not up to their usual standard.

Midian was alright, but I've never really liked them that much.

Thornography was more of an experimental album. For a band like Cradle that means going for a more mainstream approach. Thankfully they've gotten it out of their system and Dani has recognized that the Bam Margera MTV posse isn't his scene. He has a better understanding of what is expected from him by his fans now. Hopefully they won't make the same mistake. I had pretty much given up on them.

I quite liked Thornography.
My favourite album is possibly Dusk and Her Embrace.
I haven't heard any of the new album.
Any good?

It's very good. Getting excellent reviews from the fans. Plenty of songs exceed the 7 minute mark. Doug Bradley all over the place. Good pacing. Easy to listen to from start to finish for a 70+ minute album.
Here is the video for the single.

The new album (`Godspeed On Devils Thunder`) was a welcome return to their sound and style of the first few albums (which their 1994 debut `The Principles Of Evil Made Flesh` is my favourite) !!!.
I also loved their cover of the classic Celtic Frost song `Into The Crypt Of Rays` which was also inspired by the subject of the life of Gilles De Rais !!!.

Very much what I think. I love "Tearing the veil from grace" - and "her ghost ..."
The CD works great as a whole, best Cradle by far to me.
The new stuff has not managed to "touch" me.

Are you kidding me?
Check out Darkness Incarnate. Right up there with Cradle's best work.

I have to agree with you on this, Darkness Incarnate is easily the best track on the new album in my opinion.

... I don´t think I´ll ever get Cradle. I listened to "The Forest Whispers My Name" because someone told me I should. I didn´t like it. Then, because I didn´t like it, I got confused, and thus, borrowed a cd from said friend to try to amend the first impression. Didn´t work. So, I must admit I´m quite incapable of understanding what you find to be so appealing in their work - it´s been done a hundred times before. Alright, I´m probably biased, I grew up in a country where "metal" is synonymous with black metal and church burnings. But even so. Would anyone care to share why you like this band so much? What makes it unique?

Probably the Britishness. The incredibly well written lyrics. That combined with outstanding technical musicianship coupled by top notch studio wizardry and topped off with killer live performances probably wins over most of their fans. They're good at creating a dense and colorful atmosphere in their songs. If you get it you love it and if you don't get it nothing is going to change that.
These aren't church burning Norwegians. They definitely aren't considered to be black metal by even their fans. Which is why they always tag themselves as a different kind of metal on every album as a sort of joke. This time I think it's "Breakneck Lustmord Metal".
They are more akin to Venom and Iron Maiden. Check out their cover of Hallowed be thy Name. It's immaculate.

Nymphetamine. It's the song of theirs that I could best tolerate (excluding perhaps their cover of Temptation).
I reasonably like Cradle of Filth's instrumentals, and I love their lyrics to death (It gives off the should-be-meaningful-but-doesn't-seem-to-be feel to me), but I can't stand the vocals.

Dani is a modern poet. You can read his lyrics on their own and still be enthralled.
Nyphetamine (overdose) is the version you want to hear. It really shows off their talent for the progressive as apposed to the verse chorus verse architecture that plagues the music industry.
His vocal strategy remains a deal breaker for a lot of listeners. If you aren't able to get past the shriek, you are really missing out. It is an acquired taste.

I was listening to Nymphetamine... Oh that's a funny song. It's so cheesy.
I used to love CoF. Dani has a fairly decent voice.
I find it funny how he seems to have a vocabulary the size of GM's and when he talks normally he sounds like someone from a ghetto or something.

I don't know...I like that song...I have to admit though, thier lyrics are silly. This sounds stupid, but there is something quite pretty about his appearence. His voice is, to me, awesome, he can get to shrieking high note then also very deep in the same song. I think my favorite my CoF is Swansong for a Raven. (<Piano Freak)

From the pictures I've seen of Dani, his prettiness varies pretty much in direct proportion to how much whiteface he has on... I do not like whiteface.
I do like the song Nymphetamine. Except his "vocal strategy"

I really like the new album & have the special edition with bonus disc that has some excellent tracks on it (definitely check out Balsamic & Anathema and Into The Crypt Of Rays!!!). Though I enjoyed Thornography (even their trashy cover of Temptation ) it's good to hear them getting their sound "back on track".

I actually reburned the album with balsamic and anathema between tracks 11 and 12 where it was meant to go. I wish they'd just kept it on there. It's a good song and would have made the album 79 minutes.
