Yeah. That's two goals in two games disallowed by two different referees on bad calls. Either one of those goals could have been the game winner and advanced the US to the next round. It's a conspiracy, I'm telling you! (j/k)
Seriously, though, if the United States team ends up going home because that legitimate goal was disallowed by a bad referee call, I'm going to be seriously pissed.
And FIFA's stated policy on the matter is that if a call is close, the referee is supposed to favor the attacker, sort of like the tie goes to the base runner rule in baseball. The two calls against the U.S. definitely did not adhere to that philosophy.

YAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY!!!!! Despite the fact that a legitimate goal was disallowed by a bad referee call earlier in the game, the U.S. scored a goal in extra time (with less than 3 minutes remaining) to finish the game 1-0 and beat Algeria.
Team USA will advance to the next round as the top team in their group! GO USA!!! GO USA!!! GO USA!!!
WOOOOOHOOOOO!

Team USA kept me on the edge of my seat waiting until almost the last minute to score. But then they left enough time for Algeria to have a chance to score. That was the only game so far that kept me glued to the TV the whole 2 periods.

Since my country is hosting the world cup, I thought we would win!... (0_o) but I guess it doesn't go like that. Because South Africa is now sadly eliminated!
And can u believe ITALY is out already? They are the defending champs for Crying 0ut L0ud!

That team you know, with the players? They're gonna win. (I have not been following the World Cup, and I do not follow Football at all.)

My man, Landon Donovan, does it again ... scoring a badly needed goal to tie the game with Ghana up 1-1 at the 61st minute. That's 3 goals so far in this World Cup. This would definitely be a different team without him.
Go Team USA!!!

Wow! Ghana went up 2-1 in the early minutes of extra time. The U.S. team used some substitutions early so could not put fresh legs on the field when they needed too. In the end, the Americans appeared to run out of gas, and the Ghanan's were able to play keep-away and hold on for the win. Tough match, fairly played .. and the better team won.
I wonder what Team USA will look like in 4 years, with Landon Donovan and other players being 28 years-old now. Ah well ...
Now I have to figure out what teams of the remaining clubs I want to follow for the rest of this tournament. Sorry fellows, but after eliminating my team two World Cups in a row, it won't be Ghana.

The American team gave us a pretty good ride in the World Cup.
THIS VIDEO showing people around the U.S. and even in a few international locations celebrating Landon Donovan's late goal to beat Algeria is pretty fun to watch. Who says the United States isn't in to soccer?
I love the guy who has to go run up and then slide down his stairs to celebrate!

GOOD. England are shit.
The amount footballers get paid for this crap disgusts me. If they really love the game as much as they make out, they'd be happy to do it for a grand a week, which is vastly more than the average person on the street gets paid, so they'd have no reason to complain.

That isn't how the world works! Certainly not England.
In other news, Argentina lead by 2 goals at half time. More bad refereeing!

Well, group C has been eliminated.
I'm trying to decide which team to root for. Currently I'm torn between Germany and the winner of the match between Spain and Portugal. Although the winner of Argentina (3) /Mexico (1) could give Germany hell. And then there's the winner of Brazil/Chile match. Hmmm....
Man, Argentina looks strong, having won 4 matches so far.

My picks: Brazil vs Netherlands & Paraguay vs Portugal (though that was a tough one to call).

The Portugal loss hit a friend hard. I think I can't root for Spain because of it.

Speaking of the referees, I hope by the next world cup they'll allow instant replays to settle any disputes about a call.

GERMANYYYYY!!!!
I hope they beat Argentina on Saturday. Unfortunately I can't watch it live because I'll be at work . I'll watch it in the evening when I get home. With some good German beer. And my Germany jersey.
