People who develope delusions have trouble coping with reality.
What say you?

That that's the definition of delusional.

Does saying "this is clown shoes" sound okay in real life? I think I might need to incorporate it into my vocabulary.

I use the phrase 'this is clown shoes' quite often. It works well, especially if you want to confuse someone

Thanks to vin I started saying it, so far everyone finds it amusing, if not a bit odd.

Marvelous. I'm trying really hard to stop saying "retarded" when I think something is ridiculous, I think clown shoes will be a great replacement.

I don't know. I think sometimes it is a defense mechanism. If there were no delusion or denial, they'd otherwise not know how to get through the day and either freak out or allow themselves to be harmed. Sometimes people have beliefs that don't allow for all the facts. There was one person I knew who strategically hid food and then say they didn't have anything to eat. They weren't fat though. It seemed like the importance of food in relation to scarcity made it totally possible for them to block it out, until they needed a snack making it look as though they were doing it on purpose, but they weren't. That was kind of scary, yet talking to other people close to them, it appeared they did plan on eating everything because they considered themselves more important. So crazy yes. They were using the delusion to cope. So no trouble coping.

Vin, I think I did it wrong. I just went shopping with a friend of mine, and we found these boots that looked like steel toed workboots, but it had a stilletto heel. I, trying to be PC, had to hesitate before I nearly said "That's retarded", and instead came out with, "That's clown shoes."
My friend politely disagreed, they weren't big enough to be clown shoes.

To respond to the OP. I agree, having delusions can seriously hamper one's ability to deal with reality in a healthy and successful manner.
So, was there something that sparked the idea for this thread? I love stories... tell me the story behind this thread.

Hmmm...
Nothing in particular sparked it.
I was just thinking about people who delude themselves into believing in ridiculous things and why they do it.
Whether they think they have supernatural powers like Harry Potter or Magneto despite the fact that they canīt even overcome the simplest and most basic challenges of life or whether they think they can fly while theyīre just scooching around on the rug like the damned New Agers or something itīs all the same.
Ofcourse reality, real life is hard. Itīs miserable and nature is brutal but itīs better to deal with things the way they are then to create delusions and avoid reality or painful situations, right?
