So, I got my new strings today..
So, I got my new sets of D'Addario Nickel Wound light gauge electric strings today and put them on my guitar. They feel like nice strings, and they are really nice looking, but when I had mounted them and tuned them right, I started playing. When I play the bass strings(the 3 lowest ones) it sounds like they shake and hit the fretboard, giving out a "metallic" sound.
So, I was wondering if this is normal for strings of that type or if I did anything wrong.
Kind regards,
- Anarasha.

Hmmm, I'm not an expert but sounds like your guitar nut might be low. What tuning do you have your guitar in?

New strings twang a bit more than old strings, that's normal.
If what you're getting is fret buzz, then you'll want to adjust the action on the guitar. (The quality of the guitar and the setup make a huge difference to its playability.)

I use the regular EADGBE tuning for my guitar. I recorded a small clip of me playing the intro to Stairway to Heaven(made a few mistakes, never mind that) to give you an impression of what I mean.

It's only the bass strings.

That's not too bad, the guitar could do with a little bit of a setup to get a bit more sustain, and it needs a tune :P (though new strings always take a while to settle)
Overall it's ok, that's just the general twang of new strings really - minimal fret buzz. Nothing to worry about.

D'Addrios suck testicles. Throw them out and buy Dean Markleys.

I usually get Ernie Ball Guitar strings. I had fret buzz on mine, I jacked the bridge up 1-2 mm and it went away, I don't know if that's not the way to do it, but I don't really care too much.

Y'know, after playing it a while, the metallic sound isn't that bad today, I believe it is indeed just because they are new as Bete Noire said.
Now as for the setup you mentioned Noire, what should I do? :P I have no idea how to do anything but tune it and change strings to be honest.
And yes, I tuned it since yesterday, they were horribly out of tune when I made that clip. Appearently, new strings go out of tune a lot until they loosen up I suppose.
PortraitOfSanity - What's the sound difference between D'addarios and Dean Markleys?

I've got to go out now, but I'll give you a step-by-step as soon as I have time.

Less shitty.
And they last longer.
I recommend taking your axe in to get your bridge fixed. It's not something you should attempt on your own unless you know what you're doing.

That would be awesome
And PortraitOfSanity - I figured. But do they sound different? I would like to know the sound of my strings before I buy them so I'm not caught off-guard again :P

Strings don't usually "sound" different, unless you change the gauge by a lot. I just get less noise with Dean Markleys and they tend to last longer.

A few things. Firstly, you're playing light gauge strings. As such, consider raising the action, as other people have mentioned. Depending on your guitar, you can either do it yourself (if you have a Tune-O-Matic or otherwise easy to adjust bridge) or have a guitar technician do it. Try messing with where you put your fingers on the frets. 1mm difference can mean the difference between singing and buzzing.
POS: I've had strings change sounds drastically, but it's by far more noticeable on acoustic guitars. I especially noticed it when I switched my bright, light gauge Martins for medium gauge Ernieball Earthwoods.

Yeah, I have an SG, they've got a standard Tune-O-Matic, so it wasn't much of a problem.

Well yea, I did say changing gauge was the exception. But it does happen.

I don't know how to adjust anything other than the tune of the strings o.o Is it safe to do from a guide online? I would hate to break my guitar over a small issue really

I wouldn't do it yourself, you don't seem very technical about that sort of thing, no offense.

Changing the action on the bridge isn't rocket science, its not hard to adjust the saddles up a tiny bit.
