http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/14099445/detail.html

The body of a 41-year-old man was found in a wooded area next to a guillotine he built and used to kill himself, police said.

My goodness! It's bad enough to want to kill yourself, but to pick a GUILLOTINE as your method of self-termination? What if it hadn't been effective and he ended up living with a huge gash in his neck? I mean, it wouldn't be for long, but long enough to feel pain. The very thought makes me shudder.

Some people out there really make me wonder....

A guillotine is probably a quick and painless way to end it - if done properly the first time though. Albeit I read somewhere that after decapitation the brain stays alive for a brief time, so the person - rather, the *head* - would probably still see/hear/feel something.

This story is rather disturbing. Planning your own death so carefully and then constructing a device for the purpose. What must have gone through this person's mind to cause him to do this?

Now THATS a suicide. Forget those people you hear about who pop a few pills and call 9-11 for attention, this man wanted to die, and proved it.

I took him a bit of time to make the device. That means he not only wanted to die, it meant he was sitting around thinking about death as he worked on the machine which he was planning on killing himself with.

If by some chance he had survived, no one would have been able to question his intentions or determination.

As much as I am against suicide, I have to give that man credit for taking suicide to the next level.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I was reading the article.
I mean, we've all thought about suicide atleast one time or another but to actually do it is one thing. But planning it all out like that, and imagining how much time it took to build that thing. It just brings me back to Nevan's question.

I mean, think about the mans tortured mental state that must have been present for the days or weeks it took to build the device he knew he was planning to use to kill himself. The hours of toiling away, with one singular goal in mind.

Death.

Is it strange that I find the whole situation funny?

That is the best way to just say "fuck you bitches" to the world for the last time. That man rocks. Too bad he's dead. Oh well.

You have to find some humor in it, I mean it's kind of out there. But I do agree that you have to applaud some of his determination and planning. And this way, he left a lasting impression on people; if you're gonna off yourself, do it right! lol

Damn... I have to agree with everyone. I mean, that's just... hardcore. You would nearly have to hate yourself in the third person to just do something like that.

I would almost say this man commited murder instead of suicide. It's so... third person.

I have this theory that those who really want to commit suicide will, in the end, succeed. Any amount of hesitation is enough to stay one's hand, to make that phone call. The only suicide that (in my opinion) tops this is that of Elliott Smith...I mean, two stab wounds to the chest is pretty bad-ass...

Nobody can stop the Spanish Inquisition! Or in this case, The French Revolution.

Maybe he was an anachronistic anarchist. Or he was called Robespierre on the playground for reading too much.

Hell, I don't know. But that technique ... to lop off one's dome on their way to a dirt nap ... certainly redefines the flair for the dramatic.

Man, he was so goth. He had all the elements of a truly gothic death.

There was of course the suicide, which is goth.

There was the massive amount of DIY, which we all know is goth as fuck.

And the use of a guillotine. It's so old school it just screams goth.

Let's also not forget that the woods he did it in were no doubt dark and moody. Once again, goth. 0_0

We have all been goth served by this man.

Have I mentioned I love our gnet regulars?

Kotan, you made me laugh at my computer desk, and my roommate jump in her chair.

The whole thing was cool in a strange, morbid way. But then it would be quite a hassle if I would have to die like that. I can't imagine the time he took to build it, not to mention the time he took to research and plan to build it. damn, this guy is sick.

imagine how sick he would be if he was alive. If he was alive, I would like to meet him though and ask him why he wanted to do that.

Yes, he must've had a pretty twisted mind to have conceived such a thing. I'd have liked to ask him that same question.

Sick?

It's not that strange for someone who is truly serious about commiting suicide to plan the act thoroughly. Many times, those individuals who are truly serious have planned the event in extreme detail. This individual is no different, he had found the point where he no longer wished to exist and like many people in this state, sought the best way to terminate their existence.
