I can only imagine how much she must have enjoyed it. If she didn't want to kill him she would have warned him that she had the gun or given him the chance to rethink his intentions after seeing it and he probably would have turned and fled.

Still, while I generally view firearms and vigilante violence as bad things, I'm finding it hard to mourn this guy or see him as a victim of any kind. In fact, this is that rare instance in which the gun did exactly what it was supposed to - stop someone who breaks in purely to cause harm, and protect the innocent party.

All over the country people are going to be demonising this guy and celebrating his death without bothering to stop and ponder what it was that made him do what he does. I'm glad that the woman's safe and I don't see how this could've really turned out any other way, but people like Deadman jerking off over the death of rapists disturbs me.

I get that, and I do feel basically the same way. That said, given that we're one of the most therapy-oriented cultures in the world today (if not the most), people like DMW are counterbalanced by an abundance of people who think love and validation are all people need to become psychically healthy individuals, and would probably try to hug away the urge to r.ape if they ever met him. Although the need to understand is crucial, there's an argument to be made for the idea that parts of the country have swung far enough the other way to create the very victim culture which leads Uni to whine her "poor me" song as she smashes some 15 yr old girl's face into the pavement.

Although obviously I share the wish to understand why people do these things, I have MAJOR issues with the idea that trauma is the root of all violence, which is pretty much the only angle many psychological types seem interested in investigating. Fuck 'em all sideways.

EDIT - I'm not accusing you of doing that, by the way. Just spewing the usual self-important musings.
