I bought the most adorable material

...but since i bought all of it and there's no more, I'm scared to actually ue it for what I was originally going to. Anybody got any ideas?

http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/4557/matr.jpg

Originally I was going for a skirt and blouse combo, but then I thought "should I make a strapless dress with some black tulle underneath?"

But then I wondered if it'd be too loud, an all-over pattern like that.
So what if I made a waist belt and then made the top black and the skirt red.

Then I thought what if I make it into a strapless top?
THEN I thought what if I make it into a corset?

FUCK.

I think as an all over fabric for a piece of clothing it would look too busy ( unless you don't mind that look ) . I think using it as a highlight or feature would look better.

If you do the dress, you could go for a black or dark red for the main body of the dress with the tulle underneath, but have a panel down the front containing your skull fabric.

If you do a skirt, try alternating panels of black and the skull fabric with a little red tulle underneath, or a red belt perhaps .

I think going with black red or cream as the colours for the rest of whatever outfit you make this fabric into would be a reasonable idea. Since those 3 colours are in your fabric and they will pick eachother up so to speak.

Corset- use it as the front panel 'feature' on a plain corset? Either as a busk cover or on a corset with no front busk.
Panels in a skirt, maybe? Take black skirt, cut up along seams, insert triangular panels of skull fabric for fuller skirt with flashes of skull when you walk, dance, twirl, or fall over.
Use as cap sleeves on a top?
Use it as trim on a bag, or as a centre panel on a satchel sort of thing?

I would so make that into a 50's style rockabilly dress (fitted with flaring skirts) with a few layers of solid black and some tuille underneath it. To break up the pattern, make a black belt to go with it. That's what I'd do anyway. In my head, that would look rad combined with cute EGL type shoes.

I was thinking much the same as Minyaliel, though the belt should be rather wide or else it will just be overwhelmed by the pattern. Wearing it in an allover look wouldn't be too much but it certainly would take someone with a big personality to pull off, which I think you would be more than capable of doing.

You should find some fabric with a fierce wolf on it, then stitch the two together into a T-Shirt.

Would this shirt help?

You could use it on the inner section of a jacket or something, along with the inner collar area.

Roxy ( a friend of mine ) has a dress made of that exact material. It doesn't look too bad to be honest.

It really does depend on how well the garment is constructed and what details go into it, if done poorly then yeah it will be tacky but if well constructed, fitted, and finished then it could actually look pretty awesome.

Keep the dress plain and use the material to make a wide obi style waist belt.

If you like those tutu things it may look OK in one of those.

It may look good if you alternate it with a plainer fabric in paneling in a dress or corset.

Have you considered making it into a bag?

I'm not sure how big the pattern actually is from the pic but the bigger it is the harder it will be to use well.

The pattern is pretty big. The skull in the center is about twice as big as what the picture shows.

I have considered the bag option, I just haven't found a pattern I like. I was also thinking some panties if it comes to having extra material, but it seems a little thick. I have a little over 3 yards.

Damn that is pretty big, I thought it was the same size as the picture shows. In that case I would say that it is a bit too large to use as an all over material for a dress, I would even think it would be a bit pig for panels since it would just completely overwhelm anything else. I say make a bag and/or a wide belt.

Just as an update, I was on Craftster which is my most favorite website of all time, and anyway a girl had the same material and turned it into a purse. It's the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life. I guess I'm gonna have to make a purse to match my belt after seeing this.

Kudos to Chilan at Craftster. I am eternally jealous.

I hope you don't intend to wear the purse and the belt at the same time...

I hadn't thought about wearing them together, but since you mentioned it with such disgust I think I might.

I sew curtains in that fabric and they turned out very nice. Suits the red sofa and the black carpet perfect.
