So, what's your strategy for surviving this summer? ;)

Going to tuck away all those velvets? *grin*

They propose the hottest summer ever seen in my region this summer, so I'm going panic thrifting for white clothing and fishnets. Perhaps a parasol and a fan as well. How about you, what's your survival strategy?

I LOVE PARASOLS!!!!!!!!! They are so sweet.

I just wear smaller clothes in the summer, just black tops with thin straps and thin flowing skirts. I wear less makeup as well, I still wear eye makeup but not foundation.

I'm going to turn some of my pants into bermuda shorts since I can't purchase skirts with such short finances.

Resort to kahkis and light dress shirts for work and only go out for fun at night.

I'm going to become nocturnal. Well mostly anyway. It's what I usually do in the summer.

I'm trying to get a natural tan this summer, which should be easy since I'm so fair skinned and I walk everywhere. I also am gonna rock the whites and tank tops this summer.
Also, fuck pastels, my colors need to POP!
I'm also thinking of taking a sleep aid because every summer I get horrible insomnia (it already started), and I'm taking summer classes early in the morning.

Switch the type of clothes I swear (Really light, really thin, barely touches my body), crank up the ceiling fan and the fan in my window, and buy stock in ice cubes.

Same thing I do when it's winter. I go about my daily activities, and try to avoid the sun.

It's set to be the coldest winter in 10 years down here so I'm all good for now =]

However last summer was the hottest (and longest) summer we'd had in ages, and I survived that with a mix of nocturnalism, short skirts and sleeves, and an airconditioning system.

I'm switching to gauzy ripped up dresses, cotton leggings as pants, and lots of short sleeves!
But there will probably be a lot air conditioner and waking up after the sun has went down too.

I am normally nocturnal so that helps a great deal. loose "cheesecloth" type garments work well, flowing cotton skirts too. The hair goes up. Sandals help. Drink lots and lots of water. loose clothing changes how you feel in the heat immensely. That's about it.

Shortsleeve fishnet shirt I made out of a pair of fishnets that got a huge hole in the crotch so I figured what the hell this'll be my summer fishnet shirt.
I have some bermuda shorts but they're from Hot Topic, bought when I was 14 >_> So I'm thinking of ripping the labels and some other stuff off of them and making them a bit more my own.
The only skirts I own are velvet so skirts are out for summer...

(I swear, last summer, in the 100 degree weather, I saw this guy in my neighborhood standing out in the sun in a long-sleeve black velvet shirt, black pants, black industrial boots, smoking a cig.)

don't switch to mesh shirts, they're hotter than normal shirts.
I'm going more punk this summer. Shorter boots, band T shirts, shorts, good crack.

Gods... I'd die, seriously... Ignoring the heat like that can't be very healthy in the long run.

Yeah, one part of me thought "Damn, he's goth" and the other agreed with my mother (huge shock there, believe me) "What an idiot."
But yeah I later found out he lives there with his parents, probably because he's to good to to tone it down just a bit to get himself a job..... so yeah just idiot all the way around.

Funny enough, I never really get bothered by the summer heat (though I do hate the fact that when I go outdoors I end up sticking to every surface imagineable), so I don't really have to change my attire. I do burn easily, however, so I'm already on the lookout for higher and higher SPF ratings on sunscreen. Right now, I'm fortunate in that I'm out of school 'til the fall semester cranks up so I can avoid the worst of the sun.

Lucky. :< I can never find anything higher than SPF 50 around here, and right now the highest rating I've seen on the shelves is SPF 35 (50 generally comes out towards the beginning of July). Where did you find your bottle? If it's a larger chain, I might just be in luck.

Summer in Tokyo is unbearable. I was thinking of going something along the lines of "destroy the entire human race and atomize the planet Earth" as a means of beating the heat this year. Just to be on the safe side.

I won't do anything different. I like to stay indoors during the day anyway. I work 8-5 in a cold building, so it's all good! Plus I never wear long sleeve shirts or pants.

To those looking for high spf sunscreens: In Australia (skin cancer capital of the world) 30+ is the maximum rating since anything higher than that really makes no difference. A high spf rating is considered misleading and unnecessary, especially in protecting from the rather more dangerous UVA rays.

In my personal experience I haven't noticed much difference either, and I've used everything from 25 - 110 (pale skin + living in the tropics = a lot of sunscreen).

Rubbish. Been doing just that for over 15 years. The "trick" is to not mind the bloody heat. I don't even break a sweat.

Ofcourse, I don't wear velvet, I wear black leather.

Netrogena SPF 70 clear spray (target, walmart or drugstore.com is where to get it) from head to toe after getting out of the shower every morning. Going outside as little as possible during the day. Making like a bird and going north. We did 3 weeks in Alaska in May, in 3 more weeks in Scotland in late July and a week in Montreal in early Sept. I don't know how cool Scotland will be this July but it has to beat Texas.
