Why all the hate?

I've only been here for a short time, but it seems to me there's a lot of hostility and flaming on this forum. Can't we all just get along? I thought the point of these places was to band together and talk to like minded individuals? Maybe I'm just a bit of a pansy

This forum is far more reasonable and mild than it seems.

There may be some gratuitous flaming and hate (what site doesn't have some?) but I prefer to think of it as "we have standards higher than the average".

Mind you, I am not saying we have high standards. If you use easily available tools to post using correct grammar and spelling, verify your comments and back them up (using google and snopes.com at least), have an open mind and are willing to stand corrected and learn something, then you shouldn't be flamed or hated.

We have a low tolerance however for lazy thinking, chat speak and opening one's mouth (virtually) without thinking.

Try to remember, this is something of a literary forum and most members here are well read. Vultures of a feather pick carrion together and all that.

I think we're all surfing the crimson tide right now.

Or I should use my new favourite euphemism. The Communists are in the funhouse.

Are we really like-minded? Liking Bauhaus is not grounds for a collective ideology.

I don't like everyone I meet, even if we have loads in common. Same goes for people I encounter online, I'm not going to like everyone. I don't get why just because you happen to share similar tastes in music or clothing styles or whatever else, everyone's expected to get along. Being 'like-minded' doesn't mean you have to like someone. Jesus, grow a pair.

I love that!!!

I second Humane's sentiments above.

And there's been an increased influx lately of air-headed babble-bats who want to chat about nonsensical things with hard-to-read punctuation-and-structure-challenged-text all in the pursuit of attention whoring.

(Notice my highlighting of "hard-to-read." People who make posts that are intentionally hard to read or - equally important - unintentionally not easy to read, piss me off.)

This leads the community of intelligent, reasoned regulars around here to go a little crazy. And it's fully justified.

When there's chum in the water, the sharks will bite.

I second this.

This forum is without an admin. When a troll finds a gothic forum without an admin it's like an all out buffet.

I don't know, maybe I was just trying to be nice? Your remember that, don't you? Being civilised? Obviously not, I see my efforts are wasted on people like you. You know what, forget it. I'd rather be a functioning member of society than some faggy emo who doesn't know whats proper. Later assholes.

Maybe you are nice. I don't know. But insisting that people be tolerant of idiocy is not nice.

I was perfectly civilized. I am also well aware of what being 'nice' entails. I was merely pointing out that it is unreasonable to expect EVERYONE to like you. Having similar tastes is no ticket to acceptance. Almost everyone who arrives on these boards is flamed at some point, taking it to heart is just silly. Maybe you are nice, I really couldn't judge nor do I care to. As for wasting your efforts on 'people like me', aren't you being a little harsh judging me when you clearly know nothing about me?
