Two ways to end the drug war -

1. Like China and Saudi Arabia impose death for simple possession of drugs. I'm betting less Americans will buy drugs if they are dead.

2. Like Portugal, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and Denmark you can decriminalise drugs so they can be bought and sold in small quantities plus carried legally.

Continuing to do anything else, as America has for what? 50 years now? Is only madness since it obviously has not worked.

Check out the economy and crime rates in the above countries and compare them to America.

Then again, 1/3rd of the America economy today is centred around the drug war - either in policing, incarcerating, or administrative costs.

If the drug war did end tomorrow, many, many Americans would be out of work.

Luxembourg has a fucked law. They decriminalized heroin and even built a fixer-lodge, but cannabis is still carries hefty fines for anything over 0.2g .
But you can pretty much smoke openly and no one calls the fuzz, except old and prudish people. You can smoke a spliff while you're tumbling around town, but if you go and hide in an alley to smoke you're probably gonna get pinched by the fuzz.

I'm in total agreement here. There is lots of truth there.

That sounds similar to Irelands take on cannabis. Everyone smokes it in the streets and around town, but if you duck into an alley or look dodgy then yer going to get caught, but it usually is a small fine.

Whoa! This is a little late in the game to be expecting Sternn to work with verifiable facts.

Claiming a third of an economy goes toward police and incarceration etc is a bit extreme though.

There is a chance he meant 1/23rd, which is much more reasonable.

Dude it's Sternn; He and "reasonable" should never be uttered in the same sentence.

supply and demand...

how to stop the drug cartels and the violence it brings with it??

Make a better and cheaper product and make it legal.

If you want to stop them, make the product here in the U.S.

as you all say BUY AMERICAN.

but thats not gonna happen because of all the Bureaucracy.

so stop bitching... OR go VOTE for the legalazation of marijuana AND cocaine.

One in five Americans is in prison or will be in prison in their life. Over 80% of all arrests are drug related. Police departments grow exponentially yearly, with budgets growing accordingly - all in efforts to keep up with drug related crime.

Check out those links - there are so many costs, much like the Iraq War, that the government doesn't include which are directly related and should be included in the national figures, but are kept out to keep people from seeing the full impact and costs.

Which link is that from? All I see is one in one hundred is the prison population at any one time.

Also, what did you mean before: 1/3 or 1/23?

Oh yeah. And when he says these patently ridiculous things, why give him any credibility by asking him to explain them? Accept that he is an extreme fanatic who has no problem making things up out of whole cloth if he thinks it will advance his argument.

The only reason to continue discussing matters with such a person is because you enjoy the emotional frustration attached to debating the illogical.

Hear Hear,

Remember guys, Sterrn once tried to turn a news story about "Gothic Kittens" into anti-American propaganda.

He's a complete nutcase.

Stupid, new prohibition... we need to legalize drugs... especially Marijuana.. our economy needs a serious boost, and I think that plant could do the trick.

Or at least make a lot of people not care if they have a job!

Cheapest re-election campaign ever. Just stage town-hall pot bonfires and have everybody hover around and inhale.
