Mr.E, it didn't sound pretentious, luv. I just wish I had a genuine talent for something anymore.

Or, more accurately, I wish I had more time to myself in order to do the artistic stuff that I used to.

Yeah, tobaccy. It's an icky habit that I don't know why I even picked up again. I was just so stressed out.

Wow, I generally thank people on an idividual basis, but I got so many compliments on my last bunch that I'm just going to give everybody one big thank you: THANK YOU EVERYBODY!

lena on anatomy books: I can't really suggest one, I tend to just search for hours for reference photos similar to what I need at the time, or take a reference picture of what I need. I did, however, see one at a bookstore the other day that was titled something along the lines of "Essential Anatomy For Artists" and it looked like a good book.
On erasers: I suggest two different things. One, a kneaded earaser (those grey squishy ones). They're good for getting into tight spaces, for lightening lines, and if it gets dirty, just knead it a bit and the dirt dissappears into the eraser. Secondly, a white block eraser. These are made by several brands. Staedtler makes a "white plastic eraser," General's makes the "Factis extra soft eraser," or there's the Sanford "Magic Rub." In the end though it really comes down to personal preference. Honestly, some of the best erasers I've used have come from the dollar store. It's really just a matter of trial and error sometimes. So try some different things and you'll eventually find something you like.

White plastic erasers are the GODS. They work well, don't leave ugly pink smudges, and, if you keep it sharp on one edge/corner they get into tight spots just as well as kneeded ones. I haven't actually used a kneeded eraser in a LONG time.

Lena.. here's a much cheaper option... I use your standard cheep mechanical pencil not a #2 though it's too soft for strong lines. I gereally use an HB #5 lead or if you can find it 2H.. you'll have to experiment to decide which best suits your style. Note... this is what I've produced with just a mech pencil and printer paper:

With practice you can produce images with little to no clean up.. but the key is PRACTICE. As for anatomy books... I actually find them misleading sometimes, your better off with a photographed foreshortening book but basic knowledge of muscle structure is also important. Um, I like Dynamic Anatomy it's a drastic version of the body which will give you a stronger sense of muscle structure. Plus they have books for study of hands and feet... etc.

Hope that helps.

mmmm, Sanctus babe, I love ya! I'd totally forgotten about the Dynamic Anatomy book! There's also one on folds and fabrics. VERY good books.

We had a copy of it in my art room in high school. I was so obcessed with it that my art teacher almost let me take it with me when I graduated.

The Dynamic Anatomy book looks like it could be very helpful, and I think I could benefit from the feet book too, because i was kinda suprised there weren't any comments on my fairy's goofy looking feet. I never worked with mechanical pencils because my art teacher in highschool said the lines were harder to erase. But maybe i will give it a shot. Thanks for all the help.

Is anyone else in here left handed???

I think that we've discussed left-handiness(?) in another thread. Don't remember which one, though.
