So. Now I must quietly ignore the current incarnations of Iggy Pop AND Peter Murphy.
Which teen icon will it be next, hm? Nick Cave? Siouxie? Poor ol' Lemmy?

It'll be Andrew Eldritch starring in a documentary vehemently denying and trying to disprove any notion of him being goth.

I doubt Lemmy will ever really sell out like that. It he does, I'm going to drink quite a lot of scotch on the rocks as an ode to him. I don't think Nick Cave or siouxsie are ever going to sell out like that either... I hope, at least.

I am better than Tha Duckman.

1) Because I don't (normally - not counting this time) compare my self to others to establish my own value.

2) Because I don't hold Peter Murphy in that much regard. Artists can make amazing creations, but are frequently disappointing when we inspect them personally. I separate the art from the artist. It's the only rational approach when mere humans create super-human beauty - no human in reality can match that standard.

3) Because I don't create self-aggrandizing threads (although some posts like this one, depending on interpretation, border on being so.)

And the fact that Murphy may play a vampire in the next Twilight movie is so not important on my radar. The fact that he is going to have an insignificant role in an insignificant movie that I have no intention of ever seeing ... well, I was more bothered by a mosquito that got in my apartment the other day until I killed it.

P.S. - Schubert was nuts, and yet he created "Ave Maria", a fact that never fails to capture my imagination. Separate the art from the artist.

Also, I couldn't care less about Peter Murphy, I just love it that he's seen as some sort of God, and Twilight is seen as the scourge of modern literature, and now the two are meeting. Fucking hilarious!

Really? The writer is a member of the species that inhabits your state, I thought you would have been on that like... well, Catch on fail.

Alternately, you could just reconcile with the fact that people like money. They like it whether they're broke or not. Very rare is the person who will turn down easy cash to stand on principle.

As I said in the Whining section, I have decided to console myself with the belief that Peter Murphy is suffering from a form of early-onset senile dementia and doesn’t know what he’s done.

*cries frustratedly in a dark corner*

Crap! Who really gives a flying fuck if Peter Murphy cashes in on less than 5 minutes in a lousy movie that's going to rake in a crapload of cash? More power to him. I won't be seeing it, so I could care less.

So say I, Benjamin "Elton" Lahnger!

Agreed, Ben.

This is the problem with hero-worship. If a worshiper's hero does something that the worshiper doesn't like, it's taken as a personal affront. Change in the hero is perceived as an attack on the worshiper. We, for some reason, expect our heroes to remain exactly as they were when we first began to worship them. It doesn't really make a whole lot of sense.

Y'know what. That has got to be the healthiest statement about Twilight that I have read so far. I will have to reconsider my own view on the eyesore.

Like any of the 12 year old girls who see the twilight movies know who the fuck Peter Murphey is. They Probably think the Bauhaus are the assholes who did 'who let the dogs out'.

Peter Murphy looks great with black or blond hair. That is a level of achievment not reached by most.
