Am I doomed to be forever late to the party!

Grr I've been searching everything I can think of to find any semblance of goth here in Lafayette, yet all I seem to find are shadows of what once were, and not very long ago either. I even found a university webpage for a student of the University here that wrote several papers on goth in the area. I'm debating whether or not to contact him to see what he can tell me. I love history, but there are some things that I don't care in the least bit to merely read about. God help us if all the goths here have boiled to death in their boots in all this heat and humidity.

There's also a club that has some potential in the area, if it still exists, Most irritating part is, I was maybe mere meters away from where it's location apparently is, just today. I think I've even passed it by 3-4 times.

Also can someone give me some contact details on Teka-jo, I don't know why I didn't ask for such info sooner. Blast my damnable focus on merely adjusting to the area

Edit: ugh such damnable luck I just remembered that I did pass it by, and it no longer exists, its now "The Rabbit Hole", and it's music consists of your typical club varieties, and its nights consist of ladies getting in free, free wine for ladies untill midnight(they love their wine here), and possibly winning tickets to vegas. The club had such a nice name too "The Renascence club", quite fitting really when you consider how similar the meaning of the word Renascence and the name Renatus are.

At least the downtown area seems to be doing alot better than it's old google maps pictures show experiencing a sort of Renascence (irony).

Heh, at least it had a goth scene at one point. The closest thing we got is a kink scene. You get used to it, and clubbing is in IMO insanely overrated.

Anyway, you'll always have voodoo.

Fun bit of trivia, the free ladies thing is to entice women into bars when men complain there isn't any women around to take home. Something about that just makes me feel so icky I avoid it like the plague.

Not to mention I bet those nights experience an influx of roofie usage.

Apparently I also came across something that said that some vandals of a cemetery here were incorrectly believed to be goths, so some people made it their goal to push the club out of business. Not sure how accurate all that is, maybe it's a 4th hand source at best.

The free stuff for ladies bothers me a little less than clubs that are 18+ for women and 21+ for men.

You're not supposed to be in a bar at all here unless you're 19 so allow me to say, BWAH?!

Club != Bar. Most if not all have them, but it is not required.

Renatus, figure out if there's enough of a presence to start something up and then go for it.

Unfortunately that is easier said than done, without a known central gathering point for goths here it's hard to assess such conditions. I suppose I could always set up a baby bat training center outside the local hot topic:P Still that wouldn't likely get many people who are old enough to actually drink alcohol which wouldn't help a bar out at all.

Its still a loud often sketchy place with lots of people, and antithetical to the misanthropic loner gawf.

You could start like a facebook group thing or something on craigslist and see if anyone else is looking for one. It isn't that hard to hit up local establishments to see if they have ridiculously slow nights that they'd let you set up camp in. Or if tech isn't your thing try bulletin boards at like music stores (you know guitar shops?), bookstores, or cafes, you know, the stereotypical places where those misanthropic loner creative types might pass by. Leave a number or an email address and see if anyone bites. Hell, someone might have beaten you to it, and they can send you a note.

Rollinsford NH has a population of like 2500 people, and a chick I used to date set up a BYOB weekly night in a little section of a mill building that spent the rest of its time as a pool hall / underage rock venue. I'm pretty sure the "sound system" was a beat up used amplifier someone brought with them each week. If she could work with that, anyone can pull it off with effort.

Most clubs around here are either 18+ or 18+ for women and 21+ for men and anyone who is under 21 gets some sort of rather noticeable stamp, usually on the back of their hands, so they can't get drinks.

In my usual haunts, stamps are for a paid entry. Wristbands go to the 21+ crowd. Some places also draw great big X's on the backs of both hands for the younger kids.

I guess that is true of most of the larger venues, I just wasn't thinking about them as I usually only frequent a couple of small places, so they actually remember you if you step outside for a moment.

My dear, there is only so much solitude one can take before they either end up as a spiderweb covered husk of dead flesh, or walk outside and find everyone else has suffered such a fate. Besides, I'm thirsty

Now I am contemplating whether to just put out a general shout out on craigslist and see what comes up. or just contact the names that have come up in my searches directly.

Ren,

I wasn't aware that there was a raging goth scene where you came from in Wisconsin.

Sincerely,

Cheesehead Ben

:P The goth scene there compared to here, is starting to look like a baby boom compared to a ghost town.

I'm like three hours away from Lafayette, and the "scene" here is altogether nonexistent. I know how it feels. I've actually tried th CL thing, and I find flakiness and dissapointment at each turn. I find solace here, and in the knowledge that there are places not so far. Dallas, and New Orleans. Clubs to attend, festivals. Places to go if you don't mind the drive.

I don't know if its some sort of crazy withdrawal symptom or simply me still recovering from having to watch "sweet home alabama" new years eve, but when I read that my mind gave it a heavy southern drawl.

But on that note, yes I am now back in Wisconsin. I think it missed me, it gave me a lovely greeting on the flight back. As we were flying through the snowy skies it was interesting seeing the glow of the cities through the clouds, and in the times we were flying between the clouds one could see the rolling clouds on a dark and snow filled sky. Looking down on good old Milwaukee, covered in a smooth coat of snow, looking so different from when I left it, made me quite frankly smile.
