I agree with that...unfortunately it's a difficult thing to do as some subjects are intertwined with religion (abortion, gay marriage, etc.) I think the only solution to that is if people maintain a basic level of respect for each other's decisions.
For example, I would personally never have an abortion. That's me. My life has also been affected by a brother's ex-girlfriend getting an abortion behind his back. I would have a little niece or nephew if she hadn't done that. On the other hand, things happen for a reason. I am angry about it, but in a way I am glad for it because I don't honestly think she would have been a good mother for various reasons that are relatively insignificant to my point.
Even though whatever is right for me and whatever has happened to me...I can't see how many, politicians included can tell a 15 year old who's been ***** that she HAS to have that baby. It's not right.
Politicians especially need to be able to leave their religious beliefs out of their jobs, if we are ever going to be able to obtain complete separation of the church and state. I think we are a long ways off from achieving that, but I think Obama is a good step in that direction.

Anyway, approximately back to current discussion...
I really only have a problem with abortion being used *as* a method of birth control. If your pills didn't work despite taking them regularly, or if a condom had a hole in it, or if you were *****, then it's fine.
The problem is sorting out who was being responsible/who was a victim and who wasn't. And then there's the question of where the limit to responsibility is.
And then there's the issue that there's already so many kids in orphanages and foster care... >.< And kids that are growing up with parents who don't want them.
Also, my thoughts on same-sex marriage:
I think marriage is about love, and that one should have the same rights no matter who one loves.
If it's the same legal definition, why call it something different? All it does is alienate people.
Also, I personally can't say that I believe marriage would be sullied by allowing homosexual marriage. Yes, God said to procreate, and we did that with great efficiency, and now it's causing problems.

I fully agree.

Yes. I am aware of that. I was simply trying to say it in a simpler manner. :P

Atheists don't receive complementary hell/holy-fire-retardant gear like the baptized. They used to get a slide-rule and magnifying glass, but now it's just a stack of blank DVD-RWs to store MP3s and porn.
I keeeeeed.

HAHAHA. Why shouldn't atheists join the discussion? They do seem to talk a fair amount about religion.

That's right raggedyanne. I did hide my "Oh! Spam!" in the last line.
Oni's answer was very touching, though.
+3 to ThreeEyesOni 's awesome-ness.
