I'm having proper problems with my sleeping patterns. I'm having Insomnia, and blackouts in which people have seen me out and about but I just can't remember. Then it follows with a few days of not being able to wake up. The longest I've been awake on the trot was 5 days. The longest I've been asleep Is 2 days straight. I think I'm slowly going mad.

I highly suggest seeing a doctor. That sounds really bad.

A serious disturbance in sleep patterns can be caused by any one of a myriad of ailments like high blood-sugar, hormone imbalance or clinical depression. The blackouts are like their own alarm to see a doc.
There are things you can do to help combat insomnia.. they are easier said than done. Set yourself a regular sleep schedule, go to bed at your set bed time and get up at your set wake up time... whether you sleep or not, stay in bed and relax in between, make sure your room is dark and quiet. Also during the day proper diet and exercise can make a huge difference in one's sleep cycles. Cutting out sugary foods and stimulants after a certain point in the day can be incredibly helpful.
Either way, if you can, go see a doc, if nothing else they can get you some sort of sleep aid and perhaps figure out what exactly is behind your blackouts.

five days is an incredible amount of time to be awake, though, I'd say the blackouts would be because of that. Your brain can't take being awake that long.

48 hours without any sleep will start messing with your mind so I'd take a guess that 5 days could do some serious damage. Don't mess around with this, get to a doctor.

I start hallucinating after 24 hours without sleep. I think my brain starts dreaming without me, superimposing itself on reality.

Egads, I'm bored and in some sort of strange mood. The snow is cold... the dishes are dishy... I have lots of neato ideas as to what I could be doing, yet none of the motivation it would take to actually carry out any of my deviously genius plans.

Given what he's told us above, that fear seems to be legitimate.

I find it pretty funny how often I come into this thread to find it's turned into some sort of SJ intervention. I'm sure the same thing happened last time I came on.
But yeah... 5 days... that does sound like you're getting into "this could actually do some damage" territory. Sleep deprivation is actually dangerous if it's extended.

I'm planning on seeing a doctor at some point. Thing is I've been because of my sleeping patterns before. They just give me more fucking pills. Ambien and shit. I've got prescriptions for a variety of shit that I don't need. Doctors in the UK just give people a metric fuckton of drugs. I'm not knocking it, all I'm saying is I know that I would not be comfortable with the state of mind I'm in on antidepressants and sleeping tablets. Either way I'll get through it. I dropped my coke habit pretty quick so I can drop this.
Besides, I'm immortal until proven otherwise.

You need to find a good doctor. Get sent to a sleep clinic and see if they can help you out. Relying on tablets to sleep is crap.
So what sort of immortal are you? Any cool powers?
Cuckoo - not a SJ intervention thread, just trying to help someone out...

My good friend's dad had a heart attack a few weeks ago and he's in a coma. They're still waiting for "purposeful movement".

This
You can walk into a GP's surgery with your head practically hanging off by a skinthread , and all you will get is a brief prod from a bad tempered obese octegenarian/dismissive rat faced young hag, and a prescription for a 500mg dose of flucloxicillin antibiotics, regardless of what is actually wrong with you.
That or a blood test, the results of which you will never actually get to know because no one will ever call you back.
I don't even know what my own blood type is.

My girlfriend, who has been sober for almost a year, relapsed last night, the first time in like, two months we were apart. I do not know how to react to this. Is it because we were apart, or because we're together so much, or...does it have anything to do with me at all? She won't say. THe only thing she'll tell me is "I just wanted to I'm sorry"...I just feel like there is a deeper reason than that, ya know?

Outwardly, he seems alright, but I can't even begin to empathize with how he's feeling inside. If it were my dad, I'd be a raving, frothing psycho.

Well on the one hand that could be good cuz it means that he isn't totally falling apart, on the other hand that could be bad cuz he could either be numb, in denial, or just not processing his emotions. Just make sure that you are there for him, doesn't really matter what you say and do, what matters is that you're shoulder is there for him to lean on and that you'll listen if he needs to talk. Your friend has a rough road ahead but having good friends around can make a world of difference.

I used to eat cheese and sao's for the first few months of my pregnancy. I practically had one or the other in my mouth at all times. If I didn't, I felt sick.
How far along are you?
