Men in lipstick is awesome....apart from when they have a beard or something. That just looks well bizarre.

Black lipstick is okay on the right person. Otherwise, it looks very tacky , IMHO. Actually, any lipstick can look tacky done badly. As a flutist, lipstick never appealed to me and I generally don't look good in anything but a light gloss or pale pink/lavender, so I just avoid it and stick with eye makeup for a darker effect.
Oh, and when people with chapped lips cake on colors that don't suit them. That's one of my major pet peeves...

I used to have metallic purple, well, my boyfriend did. I miss that stuff so much, we had to ditch it at a concert. I really want to find some more of that stuff..

Hmm, I like it when its barely on there. Just darkening the lips. It leaves for a great look and does leave marks after a kiss. ~.^

I have just never gotten into lipstick much. Looks nice on other people but it makes my lips feel funny, and I'd never pull off black

I have black lipstick and wore it once. It just doesn't look good on most people (like me), but I guess some people can pull it off. I think it looks like a little too much sometimes.

If you can rock some black lipstick, more power to you. I think I look pretty good in it, but I can only bring myself to wear it on halloween or for a laugh. Most of the time I wear "cheeky wench" reds. x3;;

I've worn black lipstick on a few occasions, but it's not something I'd wear every day. I personally think it looks better mixed with red, of course.
Dark red or purple lipstick is more my usual style, if I bother to wear any at all.

It defenetly looks too much. The only time I've seen it look good was in pictures.

I prefer a darker berry red or a bombshell red. Black lipstick looks good only on people with incredibly perfect features that distract from the harshness, IMO. And you kind of need the full look, incredibly white skin, tons of black eye makeup, etc., for it to not look out of place. I have tried it on and have one left over from Halloween - it doesn't look godawful but it's not something I'd like to be seen in, I'd look like a tool.

I find that black only works for stage makeup. I myself prefer a dark red or even a coral. Yes, a coral. It just so happens to flatter my olive skin (which I hate, by the way). Black can, however, look good on some.

I find that a good quality black lipstick can work with alot of what I wear and it looks good with my Red (or blue, or purple or pink) hair... I love it. Goodgoth.com has a nice lipstick for sale.

I've found it does work with other lip colors, like a great blue or cool-toned red. I was blessed with dark hair and mayo-colored skin, so it works for me.
It also works as eyeshadow in a pinch!!

Well, black lipstick looks absolutely stunning on some people. On others--not so much.

I've stopped wearing black lipstick...not only do I think I'm too old to wear it, but bright red lipstick is better anyway...

Whether or not black lipstick works on me depends on my hair color of the moment. Right now my hair is black, but my real color is blonde. Yeah, I dye it. If I leave it blonde I look like a total California girl, I can't stand it. And if I wear black lipstick with blonde hair I look like a California zombie. It's just awful. But if my hair's black, then black lipstick looks good. I've also found black hair and dark blue lipstick to be a good combination for me.

Blonde hair and black clothes is otherwise a quite nice (and gothic, when the appropriate black clothes are worn) look so don't be afraid to be natural once in a while when taking breaks in the dying-process.

Hi Methadrine! Yeah, ITA blonde hair and black clothes look great. It's the blonde hair and black lipstick that doesn't cut it, at least not on me. But I can see leaving my hair go blonde for a while. In fact, you've inspired me to go to the extreme. I feel like going totally platinum blonde now. It might not work with black lipstick, but it might be fun to try regardless.

I might try it. I knew this girl back in 2003 who was Goth and wore black lipstick. Both of us were 17 then. It lookes so good!

NO! Don't talk about necroing threads, it might give people ideas.
