No it's a legitimate question.

What I mean is more that they are friends and not acquaintances. We mix often in social situations, share phone numbers and have a history between us. We're not BFFs forever, but we're not strangers.

I would consider anyone I knew personally and didn't hate to be a friend. Thus a good friend would be one that I had stronger than lukewarm feelings towards.
