What on earth is hot topic?

I've been hearing the name splashed around lately and was curious as to what this was!

I understand that it is a shop, but what kind, why is it mall goths are associated with this shop and what exactlly does the insult imply?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It is a major retail chain that is focused on "alternative" clothing, and caters towards whatever subculture is most popular at the moment. Essentially the insult of having an entire wardrobe from Hot Topic is that you aren't really a part of the subculture and instead are just dressing the part to be cool (that and the store is not known to have the best quality of products but has a fairly large price tag so having a lot of clothes from there kind of makes you an idiot)

But bully for you for forming an prejudice based on the opinions of others. Saves you the pesky task of having your own experiences without trying to fulfill someone else's expectations of it.

No she is right, I completely agree. You were just trying to fit in with the "omg goth" opinion, enjoy being a clone "mate".

"No she is right, I completely agree." That alone is a complete contradiction.

In future do not insult my wording.

"She is right" and "I completely agree" are not contradictions. Loser.
Plus if I agree I agree because this is my own opinion, not because someone told me to believe this.

No. I just meant that from what I have seen on the Hot topic website when people have posted it, and from what I have seen in the nearest BB store to me ( which I didn't stay in long as everything was a size -1 and not really to my taste) Blue Banana seems to be the nearest equivalent in terms of the style of clothes sold. I couldn't comment on the quality I've never bought anything from it.

Actually, you really were dead on about BB and HT (save for BB selling weed equipment).

You are saying that she is correct, that you agree, so you are basically copying her then? Just shut up.

Maybe it's just me but do you find yourself going into Hot Topic and looking around for at least a couple minutes in hopes of finding something cool for a change--or if not finding something cool then to at least confirm to yourself that they still suck? I've never bought anything from Hot Topic but I go into the place almost any time I'm at the mall. I keep thinking that eventually they will get something cool by accident or maybe they will accidentally hire someone cool who can order cool stuff. Then I realize that even if they do hire someone with real gothic taste that person probably still couldn't order anything cool for the store because they probably have no cool suppliers anyway. I'm especially a sucker for Hot Topics in other cities. I keep hoping that maybe it is only my local Hot Topic that sucks and the others are better, but it never works out that way. The last two times I went there I basically just went to make fun of stuff and annoy the employees. At least they are good for that.

No, I'm agreeing with her because I actually previously had the same opinion on this topic before hand. Please stop letting your emotions rule you. You aren't winning, if you were winning or said something incredibly relevant, maybe it would justify you telling me to shut up. So far you are just sounding like a royal ass.

Lucky me

If these places sold their stock at prices the clothes are actually worth, instead of pumped up prices, would people have half as much issue with them?......or maybe its good that these places take money from people not smart enough to spend it elsewhere?

Wow. This is the kind of guy who should go to Hot Topic actually. He's just naive enough to buy into it

EDIT:
And yes. I just haaaaaaaaaaaaaad to comment. It's a forum. It's what we do. I encouraged you to think for yourself, and you rebelled.

smart move,

you will go far in the corporate world. What shade of khaki are you longing to be on the inside??

Never heard of Blue Banana.
Might have to have a peek in there sometime if I ever come across this shop.

There's one in Birmingham, and as far as I am aware it is a chain store of sorts. I did go in and look round out of curiosity, but the clothes were horrible to me, and rather dear for what they were. That seems to fit quite well with people's descriptions of Hot Topic

Oh yea I've been in a few shops that turn out to be really dear for the quality.
