Hm.... This would be better in the politics thread. I did watch a good program that basically said this: That gypsies choose to be the way they are (and are proud of it), they are treated as criminals sometimes and outcasts. The interesting thing is that they used to stretch accross europe. But with the rise of Dictators of both socialism and communism they were treated as harshly as the jews and basically befell the same fate. The particular person I ran accross at one of my jobs said she was from northern romania and during the wars they couldn't move south to escape so they moved north, big mistake, after ww2 the USSR tightened it's reign due to famine and sickness and a fear of uprising. Her family was marched to a goulag and eventualy worked to death. Somehow some of them escaped and was able to settle in some part of germany. The during the horrible unemployment and social woes they fled to the US. Now, I say this as to the best of my recolections. So if anything isn't entirely accurate, I apolgise. But I hope some have found it informative.
