Today an interesting middle aged lady reprimanded me for being so in love with things retro, and she said to me in disgust, "Rachel, nothing is underground anymore. Everything is mainstream. Nothing shocks anyone anymore. Americans are on auto-pilot." I asked her when, in her opinion people were really interested in life, in something different, and she found it hard to answer. She finally said that people in the sixties seemed to care some about self expression, but they all seemed to express themselves in the same way. That doesn't sound like it was very different from now at all. I wonder what she was really angry about. I admire her persona and individuality still, nonetheless.

Ya I thought it was kind of funny except for the random 'emo prairie' dog thing at the end. That was pretty lame.

Old people don't wanna fall down 'cause they're afraid they will break their hips. What are you talking about, you silly man, chickens don't have any lips.

MORRIS DANCERS!!!!! Birmingham is full of fucking morris dancers today! Some sort of celebration of morris dancing obviously, but there are approximately 500 of them skipping about and clacking staves together and waving handkerchiefs. The women look like librarians and I have yet to see a man without a beard covered in facepaint. You can't go 200 yards without running into a nightmare of bells and flapping brightly coloured rags. I am properly scared now. They are really creepy. I am in an internet cafe right now watching the horror. Someone save me!!!!

I've never heard of a Morris Dancer. Is that some sort of hippie thing? Sounds loud and obnoxious.

Basically they are folk dancers of a sort. They wear bells on their legs and skip and leap about, smack staffs together, all to folk music. It's a kind of traditional dance. I think it originates in cornwall.

The link you provided did not work, but from what you described I can imagine why that would be annoying to put up with going through your town. We have something similar here once a year. I close the windows and tune my radio right between two stations to generate white noise.

Helps alot.

I've never posted in this thread before.

I'm feeling really hyperactive, it scares me to no end - WEEEEEEEEEEE!! I'm having a hard time getting grammar and such right because I type so fast that I mistype all the time. Not going to look good on my exam papers, but I can fix that in the morning... *can't sit still*

I've decided that I'm not getting out of bed.

Damn. I've just remembered the choclate and more importantly, the hot chocolate milk is downstairs.

There goes my decision.
