“Curiouser and curiouser!” Cried Alice

Hey there!

Here's a little about me as I'm new here.

What do you do? (Hobbies, job)
I spend most of my time visiting Stately Homes, Castles, Churches and Historic buildings, Listening to Opera and devoting myself to Decadence.

Where are you from?
London, UK

Who is your favorite author?
Possession - A. S. Byatt
Perfume - Patrick Süskind
The Beautiful and Damned - F. Scott Fitzgerald

What are your favorite films?
Harold and Maude
The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover
Brazil
Disco Pigs
Matador

What music do you want played at your wedding?
Memorial - Michael Nyman

At your funeral?
Memorial - Michael Nyman

This IS a gothic website, so... how do you want to die?
As a Transhumanist I believe that (barring accident) there is a good chance I will not die. Now that biology has become an IT science I think that technology will soon solve the problems of aging and death. Check out Ray Kurzweil for further info. (I’m seeing him next week!!!).

If I had to die it would have to be something like asphyxiation surrounded by horse porn and swarfega.

What kind of casket would you want?
Cryogenic

What's your FAVORITE outfit?
Any of my Vivienne Westwood or Wheels & Dollbaby dresses.
At present maybe my Wheels & Dollbaby Skull Print Dress

What's one thing you miss about being a little kid?
Kissing little girls

What's your favorite band?
Royal Opera House Orchestra

What kind of education do you have? What is/was/will be your major?
Fashion Design

Why did you join?
I was looking for a goth site to sell my gorgeous ‘Wheels and Dollbaby’ skull dress to people that would appreciate it and came across this forum (I posted it in the Shill forum as directed). Looked interesting so I joined.

If the first 13 questions didn't give it away. What is your gender?
Hmmm.... Well, my sex is male but I’d probably say my gender is somewhere between the two socially. I wear suits and dresses and everything else that my body can handle. I’m heterosexual (unfortunately ;-) and consider myself ‘all man’.

I'm gonna give you points purely for the use of swarfega in your preferred method of death.

However, I'm taking points away for too much fondness for opera and "kissing little girls".

It may be very interesting seeing where this goes, Jack. But maybe not.

Well, welcome djalice, and let's see.

Why, Thank you kind Miss (Cheyenne).

Thanks for the Welcome Ape. I hope I can bring something to the table (except sacrificial virgins). Maybe the Gothic tragedy of Opera etc.

Still Jack - Where what goes :-) BTW I spent the first 19 years of my life in Sheffield. Used to go dancing with the girls from 'The Human League' dawn at the 'Sin Bin' (it's and oriental buffet now I believe).

Oh, Can anyone see my profile pic? I can't. It appears on my profile page.

Hey Ben, Thanks for the Horse Porn points but I must protest at the Opera digg.

There is nothing more decadent than a night at the Opera. The music is just the best and the plots are full of sex, drugs and death! Seeing Don Giovanni decend to Hell in a torrent of flames with a naked girl draped over his arms to the music of Mozart. Or, Cio-Cio San stab herself as the cherry blossom falls over her blindfolded son. Salome, kissing the decapitated head of John the Baptist as Nazi scientist inspect naked women.....

Should I go on.....

I loved kissing little girls when I was little. What did you like kissing? ;-)

Good rejoinder! I'm still not on board with the opera ... they could do so much more with the productions if they weren't singing in that silly affected way (but then I say that about country music too). But I'll rescind the point deduction, since you defended your passion for it quite well.

Nice jab. When I was a kid I wasn't keen on kissing anyone, but especially not girls ... they had COOTIES!!!

Good thing that feeling reversed itself and I became such a lecherous deviant, eh?

@ MissCheyenne - So you're a Yorkshire lass then. Which school did you frequent? I went to King Edward's VII. It's a small dark world

@ Ben - Thanks for my points reinstatement. You really must give that Opera thang another try. It took me a while but once you're hooked it's better than crack (either one). luckily I'm dating a Soprano that's nearly half my age so I don't have to choose ;-)

You have to be choosy though. I went to see 'Anna Nicole' at The Royal Opera House and it is very modern and jazzy. Freaking awful but it has had rave reviews and sold out. Anything by Puccini or Mozart is amazing but when you start digging deeper the rabbit hole gets very dark and long. 'La Traviata' is one of my favourites (Verdi). It's about a society whore that gets trapped by love and then dies of consumption (or something). The overture gets me in tears before the curtain raises!

I'm sure most of the little girls had cooties but I didn't care. Kissing and playing Doctors and Nurses was my pastime even before I knew what it was for.

I'd probably be an old lech if I had your body Ben. You sure have a nice pair.

Yorkshire lass born and bred. King Edwards? Haha, I went to the terminally common Ecclesfield Comprehensive. Please don't hold that against me though

I'm currently in.......Doncaster. Which is terrible. My profile picture is deceiving, I'm not quite as young as that would have you believe since I'm closer to 30 than 20.................

I do occasionally venture to Corp on a Saturday, depends if I can get enough people to go though

Ah, well, we won't have crossed paths then. I was probably just about to leave Sheffield when you were entering the big wide world. Might have drifted by at Corp. though. I went with my sister about a year ago. It was much fun. As soon as I got there I got accosted by some dude that like my look to meet his friends. Some turned out to know me etc. It was like being home again :-)

I was one of those achingly cool folk who hung out on the City Hall steps, well, we tried to at least. If it hadn't been for the police moving us on all the time, some of us may never have discovered underage day drinking

Corp is the shit. It's on of the few good places around. Stockroom and Sin Bin are long since dead.

Corp is indeed the shit. I really do miss going there. I hardly ever get to go these days as getting back to where I live is stupidly expensive unless there's a lot of us going and we get a mini bus back

No, seriously, I'm at the point in life where it's not a matter of giving it another try. I like musicals (like The Wizard of Oz, Fiddler on the Roof, Hans Christian Anderson and The Sound of Music, but I also like the modern experimental ones like Across the Universe and Moulin Rouge.) I like stage plays of all types for comedies to dramas. I like watching dance well enough. I like classical music, including many things by Mozart.

But when those opera singers open their mouths and start ... expelling that sound ... well, it's just like fingernails on a blackboard to me. I actually think the modern and jazzy approach might have a better chance of working with me.

But I don't mean to say you shouldn't take your enjoyment from it. I'm glad you find it so richly rewarding.

Ben, I love the fact that people like wildly different things. To me, a great soprano (Cecilia Bartoli, Danielle De Niese, Anna Netrebko etc.) singing some haunting aria is the most beautiful sound in the universe. It is most definitely the hardest to accomplish.

I always find it a shame when I can't hear/see/understand what another can as I feel I'm missing out. I guess it's a good thing that there is so much diversity ad variety in the world.

Don't tell me you don't like good old period dramas now!

With period dramas, it depends. If the thing spends too much time making the visual statement, "Look how well we've recreated the appearance of history" as was the case with "Dangerous Liaisons", I tend to actually find that distracting. But when the focus of the thing is the story and the acting, like "Amadeus", then I find it scintillating.

And by the way, just because I don't care for "Dangerous Liaisons" does not mean I can't recognize that it is a well made film.

That's so funny. I watched 'Dangerous Liaisons' (again) last night as my girlfriend had never seen it! She'd only seen 'Cruel Intentions' which I'm sure you'd agree is a much worse movie.

I must admit to liking the setting of period dramas as it sucks me into my little fantasy world. Much the same as I like Sci-fi for the same reasons. Of course, there are good and bad and 'Amadeus' is one of the best. BTW, 'I think 'Valmont' is a more accurate portrayal than 'Dangerous Liaisons' but I still prefer the latter.

'Amadeus' is one of my favourites as it is a beautiful movie in it's own right plus it is about the greatest composer of Opera etc. whom ever lived. Oh, same director as 'Valmont' so you might prefer it to 'Dangerous Liaisons' if you haven't seen it already.

I had already put Milos Foreman's recent historical drama 'Goya's Ghosts' in my Netflix instant watch queue. Since I've not seen 'Valmont', on your recommendation I'm adding that too.

Perhaps I'll get to it sometime soon and add a comment about it here.

Oh, and once I saw the trailer for 'Cruel Intentions' I knew there was no sense in my wasting 98 minutes with it.
