I was merely responding to your remark of me being "pessimistic" and an "american idiot". And the reason that I did so, by saying what I said... was because I know how others from different countries perceive Americans to be ungrateful. I'm grateful to a certain extent, I would be a horrible human not to... but how can you be mad if I say that I don't like what my country stands for? I love the land, I love some of the people, I enjoy fourth of July...I'm grateful that I can get food whenever I want, and buy the most trendy clothes. But you see, all that is...is my brainwashed psych of what an americans should be striving for and making 'nuclear' plants for is so that my...mcdonalds and hollister can be more prosperous, therefore making ME happy. Sorry if it offends you...that I see something somewhat WRONG with that.

Stop with the bullshit. Your pessimistic remarks were directed specifically at the capability of the US to use nuclear power, it had nothing to do with this crap.

The fuck!
Do you actually think I 'love America' because I don't have food or clothes?

Benefits of Nuclear Energy

-It's environmental impact is very minimal because it doesn't contribute to air pollution. It throws out no emissions at all to the atmosphere. Compare that to fossil fuels whose emissions, known as greenhouse gases, are blamed for everything from global climate change to ozone problems and acid rain.

-The cost of producing the power... when compared to other energy types, nuclear is pretty cheap. The cost of the fuel and uranium is less than natural gas, oil, or coal. The costs of running the actual plant are similar to those of running a coal or gas plant. Lower costs combine to give consumers cheap electricity.

-Nuclear power plants produce a consistently large amount of power obviously.

-The nuclear industry points to good-paying jobs, contributions to the community’s tax base, and to their safety record as incentives for communities to let nuclear plants locate there

Not so Beneficial

-Waste of course, where do we store it?
"The Federal Government has decided to create a national repository for nuclear waste in Nevada. Yucca Mountain will be the long-term storage site for all nuclear waste in the US This means transporting the waste over long distances in order to dispose of it, a plan which concerns many Americans. Industry officials counter those concerns by stressing the safety precautions they take. The waste is in a solid form, and carried in extremely durable containers, making a "spill" highly unlikely. But, no one can say with certainty how safe a place Yucca Mountain is or how long storage containers could last. And they will need to last for 40,000 years."

-Radioactivity,it can be spread by the wind affecting large areas and it remains long after the reactor melts down.

In the end I'm thinking............whenever I have kids one day, am I going to want a reactor near my community? Would I want waste to be stored near my community??? Just so that myself and others don't have to pay as much for electricity?

No. You hold an anti nuclear stance and then start talking about McDonalds. Do you think that building two new reactors is going to increase the number of burgers eaten? I don't see the relevance here.

Low, but not no emission. Carbon dioxide produced during construction is usually considered too, and affects all power plants. Definitely worth the saving though.

Not necessarily with decommissioning costs. Though there is a report from the UK which seems to suggest nuclear power is the most cost effective energy generation that also allows for reduction in carbon emissions. It's not outright cheapest, but I suppose you could claim it is cheap.

I'm not interested in your point. You argue like a child. Anyone can run and google an article or two, but you had to state in a single sentence "Americans are idiots."

MY point is that this was offensive and you are a bigot.

How about huge solar arrays that orbit the Earth, then beam the energy down via powerful microwaves to a power station. Just make sure that microwave beam is aimed right on target...

Can the microwave beam be aimed at casinos? If so, better not put you in charge! LOL!

You find me annoying. Sooner or later, everyone finds you to be a bigot.

If my calling you a bigot is what annoys you, then I take great pleasure in declaring once again that you are a king-sized bigot!

Ben, you need to understand something, it isn't that I hate America. It's just that I choose to live with the fact of existing, without there being any stipulations for something that just happens regardless. Why should I have pride in an imaginary label?

Why don't you tell me why you love America?......... Has America sat and listened to your personal problems when you were upset? Can you go and call America up whenever you are feeling sad, depressed and lonely? Does America cuddle you on the couch at night, to keep you company while watching a scary movie?
Ben I know why it is that you love America.... It's because you were taught to love America. You was, I was, we all were. Not everyone considers quality of life to be a convenient civilization...the american dream...land of an over riding arrogance and ignorance that spills over into evangelical, theocratical right wing Christians. I know so many people who are all so very proud to be American, Proud of being a "super nation", proud of having the biggest military, proud of having such a "good" economy - proud of, proud of, proud of ...and all I smell is nothing but arrogance. And it's mostly those "proud of" starting words in every single sentence that makes me dislike americans as citizens. I am tired of AMERICA's opinion on every single little matter especially European and other countries politics. Of course It's not one's fault as a citizen, but if you get manipulated... it is your fault. Mistakes made by the government always reflect on us as citizens and you know this is true....
If you are so very offended that I think Nuclear waste is dangerous for our future then I am so very sorry, but I won't take back my opinions on the issue... The fact is that it will remain lethal for thousands of years... And as a stopgap...it's a really rediculous idea. For only fifty years of energy... we're going to have to guard the waste for more than a thousand years!?!. Our country...our government hasn't even been around for 1,000 years... And yet we expect that the Department of Energy is supposed to last that long? In this time of war... the idea of safeguarding material that could be used to make dirty bombs, is just absolutely idiotic.
In the end I don't give a rats shit whether people consider me a bigot. I know that I've gone overboard on certain issues and I'm sorry but only because I realize how offended people can get based on a opinion that differs they're own. But I will not agree with something just because it's what everyone else considers to be right. And if that's considered wrong then call me a bigot, call me an idiot, and call me annoying. Because I sure as hell don't give a damn.

Anyway, back to the topic.

Anyone see Capitalism, A Love Story?

They did a whole thing about how pilots make minimum wage. Since they have been able to break the unions and corporations are now able to get away with paying pilots pennies a day, they make less than some fast food workers. This is in sharp comparison to when back in the 70's and earlier when they made hefty salaries. Thanks to large money grubbing corporations trying to save a buck on labor that has changed.

Since they make next to nothing, the number of crashes and other incidents has like quadrupled. Turns out the low pay attracts few qualified people, who in turn do shit work.

If America wants to build nuclear power plants, that might be a good thing. If the same greedy corporations pay the workers jack shit, well, you can expect there to be nuclear scale incident sometime in the near future once it goes live.
