Hey, I gibber like a fool over spiders.... arachnophobia will do that.
Just remember to take a deep breath. No one here really knows you (luckily in my case  ) you be ok guy, just remember that personal shit doesn't mean anything here. As long as you love cats and various other small mammals you will do fine.

I hate to jump in on this as a newbie to the forum, but not to the scene or its trappings, but yes, there actually is a criteria. If we throw words around, they lose their meaning. I have a sister who likes some stuff from Japan, but she's not automatically an otaku.
I agree the initial post was not the friendliest and did come off as pretentious, and that's too bad.
