GothHippie?
Can a Goth be a hippie? And what would one look like? Most hippies are into bright things, and most goths are into dark things, but then again this is a lot like the question, can a goth wear all white, except more attitude wise. Ofcourse then theres perkygoths. But you wouldn't normally call them hippies. Personally, I'm stumped.

To say that goths only wear black is stereotyping. Wear what you want. But usually these two labels are meant for different groups of people. A goth can wear white. I do. or whatever I want.

I have had "hippie" friends who actually lived in the 60's and were the real thing say that I reminded them of a beatnik. What is a beanik?
I'm partial to tie-dye print shirts, I think that Pink Floyd is one of the best bands ever, I like Led Zeppelin songs for the lyrics and not the "metal", my politics are left enough that I consider myself a social democrat... huh? social democrat?
yah, you could say I'm a bit "hippie" as well.

I've always thought a white/gray/black tie-dyed shirt would look awesome.

Based on this and your other posts, I believe you.
I have a zen question for you. (baiting the hook)
What is the sound of one hand clapping?

Read it again. I said most, and most do, I wear white also. In fact, I only have 2 or 3 outfits that someone normal would call "goth", and I myself wear some white and lots of regular clothes.

Here's the zen answer for you, MM:
Q) What is the sound of one hand clapping?
A) Louder than the volume of sound that would be created if the intelligent part of your posts were converted to speech.

i have heard of this as well...the two are like oil and H2O. however, if one goes by the tune of one's being, the two could exsist as some perfectly normal paradoxical exsistance.

You were repetative in the last sentence and you wrote "the two could EXIST..."
when it should be "the two could CO-EXIST...". Oh, and I think paradoxical is not a word. So next time try not to be a smartass just to hide that you're really a dumbass.

eu, maybe you should try not to label people, Mohawk. Life becomes a lot easier if you just accept people the way they are.

Ever heard the phrase "people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones"?
Although, given the boulder you just heaved to the sound of shattering, probably not...

Hi MohawkMidgit. I'm with Falken on this topic. There are parts of my personality that fit in with both the goth and hippie cultures, as well as having many other traits that don't belong to either. I'm very happy to be multi-dimensional in this sense and find that having a broad range of tastes results in an enjoyable variety of experiences.

Back in highschool, there was this 'goth' girl (always had a face like she wanted to bite you, you know the type) who claimed she hated me, although we never even talked to each other. Apparently, she thought I was mixing hippie and gothic clothing, which was a Very Bad Thing. I thought it was pretty funny.
I guess she was right, I do prefer long flowy skirts and dresses with an Indian look above fishnets and PVC, I wear more colors than most goths I know, and I like flowers and tie-dye, so my clothing style could be described as hippie goth. Frankly, I don't think it matters, wear whatever you like and call it whatever you like.
I don't know anything about hippie music so I can't say wether I like it or not. I do have a tree-hugging peace-loving kind of character, but I don't think that's a typical hippie ding, I prefer calling it 'being a nice person'.

I'm with Iriacynthe and Wizard on this one.
It's possible, if paradoxical. But the two aren't mutually exclusive. For me, it depends on what mood I'm in.
And yes, 'paradoxical' is a word.

I suppose they're similar in the same way that all subcultures are similar; the refusal to accept the 'normal', the desire to do your own thing.
There's definitely crossover between the subcultures as well, especially as outside of the stereotypes, there's a lot of leeway. The best example of this is the notion of goth 'types', the mopeygoth the perkigoth the romantigoth* simply to help justify the stereotypes.
"How's she a goth? She does this/that/other. Goths don't do that"
"Oh, well she's obviously a whatever-goth."
So, hm, I'd say they they're different. But there's nothing of any real note preventing someone from embracing both sides of the two subcultures, only if someone had goth leanings, I suspect it'd be a lily down the barrel of a gun.
Also, if you want a laugh, imagine a hippie dancing to White Rabbit. Now imagine a goth dancing to Silent Hedges. Look! They're the same!
*Yeah, the Tamagothi is brilliant.

*head spinning from crazy mental images*
Which would be easier....
For a goth to have a little bit of hippy in them;
Or...
For a hippy to have a little bit of goth in them.
No rude jokes please.

It'd probably be easier if they disregarded any attempts to play up to some stereotype and just did whatever they wanted to do and let others label them.
Or something.

As long as you're not a bring-down or anything. A square's a square, but at least they know they're squares. The worst thing is a square who thinks they're hip. Totally ruins the mood, dig?
You have to have to be harsh with a bring-down. It's not nice, but it's not uncool.
