Smile The Music of the Macrabe

Ok, in my indrodution post alot of people talked about Sisters of Mercy or whatever it is, and alot of other gothic bands (I'm guessing). So since I know none of them I would like anyone who feels nice enough to liat all their favorite gothic bands. Thank you.

Sisters of Mercy (without the whatever it is)
Bauhaus
London After Midnight (for a newer take)
Siouxie and the banshees
Specimen
Switchblade symphony (I like it anyway)

Dresden dolls are one of my favorites, maybe not necessarily of the gothic genre but It's a good band so it doesn't matter.

This thread is really pointless. If you're looking for some goth bands, why don't you go back to the boards and click on the music thread and actually read what has been written there? Ugh.. >_<

Cruxshadows
Siousxie and the Banshees
Combichrist
Panzer AG
Red Wedding
Christian Death (both versions. Fuck it)

To be brutally honest, I'm not a fan of much goth musicians as I'm more of a fan of the music and style of these musicians. I love the sound of goth rock, deathrock, industrial, ebm, ect. I'm just lucky enough to know where to look and go to find more of what I like to hear.

Cruxshadows is by far my favorite band though. Rogue's lyrics seem to speak to me on just about every single song and the violin induces tearful reactions. I'm so EMO for Cruxshadows.

I'm getting very interested in what musicians are trying to do with Steampunk as of late. Abney Park, Dr. Steel, Vermilion Process. These are really cool musicians in their own rights.

The staples:

Bauhaus
Sisters of Mercy
Siouxsie & the Banshees
Christian Death
Alien Sex Fiend

Not goth, but try telling everybody else that (also staples):

Joy Division
The Cure
Dead Can Dance

You should also know:

The Mission UK
Southern Death Cult / Death Cult / The Cult
Theatre of Hate
Virgin Prunes
Specimen
Danielle Dax
Sex Gang Children

Ethereal that you should know:

Black Tape for a Blue Girl
Lycia
Love Is Colder Than Death
Ataraxia
Qntal

Neofolk you should know:

Death In June
Sol Invictus
Fire + Ice

Other bands to get acquainted with:

Human Drama
Legendary Pink Dots
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
Current 93
UK Decay

Granted, you're not required to like all of it; but if you don't like any of it you're going to look really silly running around calling yourself a goth.

Also, don't bother with "The Goth Bible"; even Voltaire's writing is more worthwhile than that. Ultimately you want to go to www.mickmercer.com and read his music blog religiously, and branch out from there.

Heh, I suppose if she asks, I'll compile a list of industrial bands, too. I think a lot of people here would disagree with me though, since I tend to differentiate between industrial and techno. ;-)

Why is everyone repeating the same BASIC bands and just adding new ones
If a band has already been listed don't list it again.

Couple other toss-outs that haven't been paved over already:

Eden
The Wake (the old one from C-town, Ohio, baby! Though the UK post-punk band is whoooooop ass too, but not relevant)
And Also the Trees
Brotherhood of Pagans
Two Witches
The Shroud

And no one mentioned Nosferatu? Pssh. Yeah, them too. Especially the stuff off their 1995 album.

Also, had I come into this thread earlier, I would have posted everything that has already been said, but even though it is not old or a classic, Autumn (American version and The Hating Tree album specifically) is really incredible.

Also Clan of Xymox, X Marks the Pedwalk, Rosetta Stone, Corpus Delecti, Nosferatu, Blade Fetish, Love and Rockets, Fields of the Nephilim and Stoa.

The Blue Man Group!
There's nothing gothier than three blue bald men trying to have a fancy dinner offering Twinkies.

(ah, Haunted, I see you're getting very into Frank the Baptist)

Kontan, I believe you're referring to "Vernian Process". My bf is buddies with that guy.

In regards to Autumn, this is the website:
http://www.autumn-us.com/discography.htm

They have mP3s and the album I specifically like is The Hating Tree (second one down). I really recommend it for anyone that's interested.

The album up top (from 2000) just simply doesn't have the sound that the 1996 hating tree does.

I'm just going to make a thread in the music section for Autumn, but for anyone that looked into this one already, Shadow Girl is really fuckin awesome on the "Return to the Breath" album.
