Nardol

For those interested here's my introduction, although I think most of you have seen me around already. But since I'm feeling social, I'll go ahead and delve into some of my information for your sake.

1. What do you do? (Hobbies, job)

I am an apprentice machinist/tool and die maker, which I enjoy more than automobile repair, which is my educated trade (i am certified as a master auto tech/master gas and diesel engine machnist/advanced engine performance specialist).

I love to play guitar and mandolin, I've been thinking about a tenor banjo for some time now (tuned one octave down from mandolin and with bigger fret spacing, I think it would be easy to pick up)

I love growing roses and herbs, but don't have a garden of my own (condiminium complex >;p ).

I like computers and messing with hardware, my current machine is a sort of franken-puter. None of the add-on components seem to really match each other (aesthetically), but I'd like to build another in an antec p180 case, with a foxconn MB, AMD dual core CPU, a pair of high-end ati vid cards, another SB X-Fi platinum sound card which is by FAR my favorite piece of upgrade hardware, and a swiftech liquid cooling kit.

I do alot of writing and then reread it in order to gain personal insight. Sorry I'm not likely to share this anytime soon, it's alittle revealing in a freudian sort of way that I'm not comfortable putting on the table for the world to see.

2. Where are you from?

I was born at Frankford Northeast hospital in Philadelphia and grew up in the Olde Kensington district, which is still home to me, though the neighborhood is radically different than when I lived there. I am a sixth generation descendant of (mostly) Irish immigrants the oldest heritage of which came over in 1861.

3. Who is your favorite author?

Giles Milton, I especially liked Nathaniels Nutmeg, it was cool and gave me alot of new information on the history of a different part of the world during the colonial era. History class seemed to completely ignore the rest of the world during this period.

I am also fond of Homer.

Most of my reading is reference materials (herbals, technical manuals, and writing references to help me along with my novel)

4. What are your favorite films?

Jaws is my favorite, hands down. Captain Quint is my hero. He wasn't really an actor until then. He was a fisherman that they found there on Martha's Vinyard and he fit the part SOOO well.

Anything by Akira Kurosawa, Snatch, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, A Clockwork Orange (mostly for the cool british vernacular)

5. What music do you want played at your wedding?

Irish Irish Irish

6. At your funeral?

I think funerals are mostly wasteful, although I definately want a wake. Irish music at my wake for sure. I think it would be fun to watch all my friends get drunk and blame each other for things that happened in my life that they thought was horrible and all each others fault. Then they'd fight and brawl and give a good row.

7. This IS a gothic website, so... how do you want to die?

In battle. I think this unlikely since there doesn't seem to be too many good causes with wars behind them anymore. If Ireland ever decides to take the northern six counties by force I'll go over and join up with a foriegn regiment but otherwise I think wars are entirely fought for the wrong reasons these days. OR I'd like to die at home at a very old age surrounded by my children grand children and great grand childiren (my family is typically long lived, so this isn't so unlikely to me).

8. What kind of casket would you want?

A green urn, I'd prefer cremation. My Grand Father's urn is very pretty, maybe I'll just double bunk with him.

9. What's your FAVORITE outfit?

My brown bostonians and plaid pants. A white button down, long sleeves rolled up just to the elbow and a jeffries hat

10. What's one thing you miss about being a little kid?

Playing chess with my grandfather

11. What's your favorite band?

The Clancy Brothers or maybe Dervish

12. What kind of education do you have? What is/was/will be your major?

2 years of post secondary automotive trade school. Ive been considering going back to school for manufacturing or Herbology/allopathy/homeopathy or maybe osteopathy or languages (I'd love to learn Gaelic or Japanese, and brush my German up)

13. Why did you join?

I was a member a long time ago and refound this site while looking for plant folklore

14. If the first 13 questions didn't give it away. What is your gender?

Male

I'd like to welcome you... but I must ask that you cease and desist with the text color it's a tad dark and hard to try and follow.

Welcome!

I enjoyed reading your intro. And I like Kurosava'smovies a lot,too.
Actually, the green text color hurts my eyes less than the black and white

Welcome, Nardol! And try lightening up your font, please.

Sorry about the color. I used the darker color, because it's less strain on my eyes also, Nike. And I'm a big fan of dark earth tones, muted greens and browns especially. How's about this green?

I know that earth tones aren't especially gothic, but my red haired complexion tends to work well with them, and they are very true to my personality.

In any event nice to me some new people.

No... we just get bored with the intro section because one or two in twenty are worth responding to. I quit posting here entirely for at least two months...

But seriously, attention is a privilage and interest which must be accquired by methods much less expecting. Go post else where, add to the mass as you have been and make your own mark on Gnet. We're not likely to notice if in just 87 posts you're discouraged by our lack of consistant attention.

Hello, welcome, Nardol. (It's good that you wear earthtones if you're redhaired; it doesn't clash as much as black would.)
