Alarming studies show that...
Today, Scientists in New York and California finished a 2-month study and found out that watching the news is bad for your health! It can create nausea, stress, needless worrying, bloodlust, inspiration for crime, racism towards Middle-Easterners or goths, and can also make you believe that anything you eat or drink or do or say can be bad for your health. It can especially harm the elderly, who are already very susceptible to paranoia, and don't need to think just breathing air can give them a flesh eating virus. The news also has a habit of exaggerating and flat-out just lying.

I kind of figured watching the news was bad for me.
But I only figured so because I do suffer from paranoia and I don't like to think of all the bad they put on the news.
I've avoided reading the bad stuff though when I do read stuff on Yahoo! and I just don't watch news channels at all.

I haven't watched that crap for a while now and I am less depressed! I am subjected to it when my husband goes to his folks house otherwise I stay away from it, gleaning news from the internet and such...

It wouldn't be so bad if they just threw some upbeat stories into the TV news mix every now and then.

Try living in the Middle East! Bad news reaches you without watching television. I live in Lebanon. We always have bombings, car bombs, political assassinations. Muslim versus Christian riots. The whole Nine Yards. It's a fuckin circus here! On the other hand, try being Goth, American and Catholic. Now, you're just looking at a long string of an eternal dose of daily bullshit.

I hate news channels. I refuse to watch anything that makes any sense now! Except all my movies....like The Boondock Saints! Now they fucking cheer me up!

It's not only the news as phenomenon it's more TV in general that's bad for you. It feeds you shit and you believe it becuase you have nice pictures to look at and can just relax, not think and still have something put in your brain.
You then have half chewn information that you don't question. Hopefully you do of course, but many don't...which makes ignorant and full of prejuidices.

I think it depends on "how" you watch the news. I work in a place where I hear the on-hour news from the radio; there's always news about bombings in Middle-East, murders and assaults here and there... I just can't be bothered about them anymore. It's become too constant. But shouldn't that, if something, truly be an alarming sign? When you no longer are interested in how many people have died and where?

I agree 100% with Draconysius, hence the reson why I do not watch the news. I also avoid watching television, commercials really piss me off and aggravate me. I also cannot find many entertaining programs to watch, except for anime and CSI.

Funny; I always thought that there was a disconnect between the common citizen, and current events. But, then again, it is within the human condition to empathize, and sensationalism is a powerful tool.
