The Starbucks logo is a slut

SEATTLE — The Starbucks 'mermaid' logo is causing an uproar with some Christian groups.
The groups say the 'mermaid' seen on Starbucks cups is 'slutty.' The logo shows the 'mermaid' or 'siren' spreading its tails and showing bare breasts.
"The woman is actually a siren, not a mermaid, which in Greek mythology lures people to them with their beautiful songs, and then kills them," explains Mark Dice, Founder of The Resistance.
Several blogs have reported on the angry protest over the logo. Groups like the Resistance say the naked woman on the cups is in poor taste. The Resistance is a Christian media watchdog organization. The 3,000 member group is boycotting Starbucks across the country.
"The Starbucks logo has a naked woman on it with her legs spread like a prostitute," explains Mark Dice, founder of the group. "Need I say more? It's extremely poor taste, and the company might as well call themselves, Slutbucks."
The all-brown logo is a re-make of the chain's original logo. Starbucks declined comment, but in a memo last month CEO Howard Schultz said " . . the original logo acknowledges our pride in our past and embraces our heritage as the world's leading purveyor of specialty coffee."
The cups with the re-made logo are expected to be only temporary.

Ugh, protestant fanatics will never know true art. I bet they're just trying to build up steam so they can call the Sistine Chapel hardcore porn. Though I personaly don't like the new Starbucks logo as much as the old one.

First off JCC I apologise for that brash statement, it was made by the train of thought from my experience as a Catholic where tasteful nudity is accepted but failed to consider the fact that there are no doubt expections to that.

edit: so it seems that this new logo is actualy the original logo, in that case I am in favor of the previous logo.

I love in Washington and I had to remind myself of what the label actually looks like.
Though I also haven't seen what the new logos actually look like. Is it really that big of deal? Considering the bible that has pictures has more tits and asses then this fucking label does?

It's so strange how they attack a logo like that when they really could have gone anywhere and done something that was more productive. What about issues that people could actually give a shit about? Those who go to starbucks will continue to go regardless of the logo.
Oh well. That's what they are know to do anyways.

um...I'm still confused how they think that the damn thing is a siren, a physical description of sirens is given in many different myths and none of those descriptions even remotely match that picture.

When Starbucks first opened, the same Christian groups attacked the logo claiming it looked 'satanic' - much like the Proctor and Gamble logo. They really must hate the logo since they spend so much time launching campaigns to stop it.
Or they really have too much free time and waste it on shite like this.

I don't know, I don't like Starbucks coffee much anyway, but changing labels doesn't change the coffee any. The real hardcore coffee addicts aren't going to stop because a few Christian groups are protesting (and by hardcore coffee addicts I'm talking about the majority of the population here in Western Washington xD)

It's just a big publicifty matter, to the point of saying "several blogs have reported on the angry protest" when who the hell cares what blogs say? The people that write the blogs most of the time don't even care.

Christians tried to get Marylin Manson's music banned. They didn't pull it off, unfortunately.
Mostly just a whiny bunch. I went to a Christian school my entire life, and I had most of the things that I love written off as both sinful and unbecoming for a Christian. It's really got nothing to do with doctrine, it's more about preaching against the things that you see obnoxious and... well. Being repressed.
