Intro
1. What do you do? (Hobbies, job)
I’m a college student (literature major). My interests are reading, writing, art, philosophy, feminist theory, music, sociology, and folklore (mostly European).
2. Where are you from?
New Jersey.
3. Who is your favorite author?
Don’t have a single favorite – but Kurt Vonnegut, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Kathy Acker, Toni Morrison, Charles Bukowski and Albert Camus always go down well. I also like Kafka, Sherman Alexie, William Blake, William Carlos Williams and Allen Ginsberg.
4. What are your favorite films?
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, Happiness, Easy Rider, The Devil’s Rejects, Vertigo, The Trouble With Harry, The Long Good Friday, and pretty much anything by David Lynch or the Coen brothers. I like Serenity as well and should probably confess to being a Joss Whedon fan at the age of nineteen (feel free to take the piss, everyone else does).
11. What's your favorite band?
The obvious giants like Bob Dylan and Tom Waits (I’ve yet to meet someone with reasonable taste who dislikes either of these and I hear there are a lot of fans here), Opeth, Dead Can Dance, The Dead Kennedys, Dresden Dolls, McCoy Tyner, Christian Death, Billie Holiday, Amy Winehouse, Minutemen, The Fugs, The Clash, Leonard Cohen, The Cure, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Patti Smith, The Jam, Jimi Hendrix, The Specials, The Holy Modal Rounders, Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros and Aphex Twin.
13. Why did you join?
My SO has been a member for a while now, and assures me that contrary to my preconceptions, message forums can sometimes be a fun to pass the time and aren’t just for people with no lives.
14. If the first 13 questions didn't give it away. What is your gender?
Female.

Mmm... Welcome to the board!!
You SKIPPED lots of question.
I won't make comments about your taste in music and author's works.
There always be somebody around here to do that.
welcome, again!

Yeah, I skipped the boring questions. I figured (or hoped) nobody really cares what music I want played at my wedding or what kind of casket I want when I die.
Thanks for the welcome.

Well, that's something people (or at least, me) will comment about, beside your music and other things.
I hope you'll find it comfortable, here.
So, welcome again ,then.

I have reasonable tastes and I think Bob Dylan is a fucking hack.
I like you, though.

That's overly critical. I'll say that Dylan isn't any better than many of the singer/songwriters of his era, but he isn't a total hack. He has talent, but I'm not sure his talent is commensurate with his renown. He just happened to pull the right card from the music industry's hand.

If your tastes really are reasonable, then I guess there's a first time for everything...
Thanks for the welcomes, Underwater Ophelia and Pinstripes.
Shade, I appreciate the heads-up, but if anyone gets pissy about not knowing about how I want to die I'm pretty sure their ire will roll straight off me.

I agree that there were other things than talent at play in his huge popularity, but I do think his renown is entirely deserved. Although there are many equally good musicians who will never be as popular, if you're into music and always looking out for new things, you'll probably find a lot of them by yourself.

Now, honey, tell the nice people the rest.
Like the poster of Spike you had hanging on your wall the first time I ever saw your room.

Bob Dylan may not be hack. But Toni Morrison certainly is. So it all evens out I guess.
Welcome to Gnet.

The Cure's cover of Purple Haze is the best of both worlds.
I remember driving around to thrift stores with one of my friends and absolutely BLASTING Jimi in the car. That was an awesome day.

If you like music I think is shitty, I don't think you've got good taste in music. Is that not a fair conclusion for me to reach?

It would be, sure, but it's foolish to make a conclusion like that without taking the other music I like into consideration.
It's also foolish to say that because I like music you don't like I don't know anything about music.

You like Katy Perry, you think Bob Dylan and Tom Waits suck.
There's very little that could redeem your taste in music to me.
