What was old is new again
I registered here a while ago, but never really engaged the forum until now. Thank the email newsletter for keeping me informed and bringing me back to here to see what all the fuss was about.
I'm an African-American Goth living in Minneapolis. I've spent 12 years working with various companies around the Twin Cities area as a Web-oriented communications and marketing professional. My focus has been on working with the media (Newspaper, Public Relations, Advertising), but I have also had stints with everything from Internet startups to monolithic corporations. I've finally gotten away from corporate life, however, and I'm pursuing a much more creative and fulfilling career path.
While Gothic is a label that comes closest to describing my personal outlook and philosophies, my use of it should not be confused with the modern music and clothing-based stereotype. My interests more closely follow the Romantic movement, a group of related artistic, literary, political, philosophical and social trends that developed during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
My other interests include The Dark and the Romantic (clothing, books, art, music, people, you name it), history, disasters (natural and unnatural), endurance sports (marathon, adventure racing, etc.), winter time, the Pacific Northwest, severe weather, and travel. My music tastes are all across the board, from The Cure to Sam Cook, from The Beach Boys to Killswitch Engage, from Rage Against the Machine to Sade.
