Hillary

Why is it that everyone else is refered to by their last name, except, for Senator Clinton?

I was wathcing the morning news shows and you hear Oboma, McCaine, Edwards, Romey, Huckabee and Hillary. I can't figure out if this is familiarity or disrespect.

It's to differentiate her from her husband, I would think. If you say "Clinton," many people might think of Bill Clinton.

Senator Clinton is the only one running for President.

George Bush has exactly the same name as George Bush. Everyone knew who was running for President.

Hm, I've never thought of that. Maybe they're trying to emphasize that a woman is running for president?

Hillary is FUCKING GARBAGE! FUCK HER.

Was that a sign of familiarity or a sign of disrespect?

Other than that, I really don't know. You seem to be the first person I've met that's brought it up.

They do now. Back when he was running most people referred to him as "George W."

Well, her campaign endorses it, so I assume she's fine with it.

Aren't you lovely. It is a point. I'm not voting for Sen. Clinton because I think she is mainly dishonest and largely incompetent, but she should be treated like everyone while campaining, though she'll lose.

Yes, I am lovely. Though I will say that I agree with the sentiment that her campaign endorses it. If she doesn't wish for this to happen, then why wouldn't she have said something? I swear, I hate the way this election is going. The way things are here, you're either racist if you don't vote for Obama or you're sexist for not voting for Hillary.

So you think maybe Hillary is encouraging it, to make it look sexist and get sympathy?

She is dishonest. I could believe that she's doing it for sympathy.

Actually, it makes more sense than the other two options.

Yes, and when he was running he was always referred to as "Bush Jr."

Well, they call President Bush "Dubya". Is that disrespectful? Americans have a long tradition of referring to candidates and politicians in familiar or "disrespectful" terms, ever since we decided that King George guy was full of crap. It's our heritage.

I swear, people these days are so eager to find reasons to be upset it's almost funny. I almost think I could get people to cry "misogynist" by mentioning the fact that she's a woman.

I like her more than Obama, but I'm voting for McCain. At least McCain tries to have ethics.

Not really a problem for me.

Should we have gone in? No.

But most of the people there truly are trying to build a better life. I'd really hate to see that crushed by the people who think that women should be treated like animals.

Women can be treated like animals in any country. As can men.

Coming from a person (myself) who has family over in the Middle East--MANY consider Western women to be nasty, masculine sluts. I've heard it myself from my neighbors and my family.

I don't think you'd like it very much if a foreign country came over to wherever it is you live and tried to force their mores and values on you.

Team America World Police....hell yeah?

Sadly, there's a bit of difference between how women are culturally treated in Islamic societies, and the way they are treated by Islamic extremists.

If you are arguing that it is immorral for us to force western values on them, you might have a point. However, I don't see our troops opening up indoctrination centers or shooting people who don't dress in mini-skirts.

If, however, you are arguing that it is immoral for the United States to restrict the opportunity for people such as the Taliban to enforce their brutal and cruel philosophies on countries such as Iraq or Afghanistan...

Then I must respectfully disagree. I don't think that the United States is morally required to police the world, but I do think that once we butt our noses in, we should try to clean up the mess.

To date, the casualty toll for American troops is far lower than any other war we have participated in. Although each death is a tragedy, and war is not a good thing, it must be kept in perspective...that many people will die if we abandon the country now.

With the recent successes of "the surge", I don't particularly see an definite end in sight, but it is true that many Iraqis have seen a hope for the future. I don't believe that most people in Iraq want to live under the rule of those insurgents currently fighting us there.

I'm all for seeing the first female president in my lifetime. However,I can wait a little bit longer. I'd rather the first woman to run the country not be the daughter of zee devil.
