Thanks for the birthday wishes, guys.

Whereabouts in London were you, Honeythorn? I was on Oxford St getting myself overladen with overpriced household items... fun fun fun.

I was in Camden ogling clothes that I would never fit into until approximately 2 years from now, and nibbling on a nice young man ^__^

I had a great time. I must go there once more before whitby and try to see if there are any clothes I can buy for the goth weekend that A: fit me , and B: don't cost the earth.

I did see a pair of very nice shoes but didn't have quite enough cash for them. And I was distracted by the nice young man who accompanied me *blush*

usually in the indoor market, you can find some nice clothes and for a reasonable price.then again if you can't find what you looking for what about designing it and making it yourself.

First, Cicero- Hope you had a terrible birthday. What? Can't have bad birthday wishes? No-one wants the shitty job of wishing someone else had a shitty birthday? Well, I'm sticking to it.
Have a horrible one, and "Prove me wrong kids."

I can sew on a button...that is it. I cannot make clothing , I haven't the skill or time. I can modify by adding but that's the extent of my talent in that department. I do make jewlellery and hairbeads from scratch though ^^

I didn't know how to make anything by sewing. The way I learned even what little I know was just to actually do it. Start off making simple PJ bottoms. After those, make a shirt. Start off with simple things, and you will soon realize that the complicated things are just a shit-load of simple things. Mind you the complicated things are harder to fix if you screw up, but it's worth it to have something you can honestly say that you made. If you get good, you'll have friends begging you to make them stuff. Something after that if you're dedicated enough would be to have a expo of a collection that you designed. Keep in mind that a collection is something like 35 outfits made within 6 months to a year I think. Look that shit up if you really want to do it. As for not having the time, I think I made that long black jacket on my Photobucket in roughly 15-20 hours. If it takes time, you'll make time for the things that really matter for you.

Sewing is only easy to me, with a machine at least. Knitting is where I struggle.

I have a machine but it's broken and I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong with it. I have tried looking up manuals online ( I got it secondhand and it came with no manual ) but to no avail. I tried to do a few practice runs on some spare bits of fabric but it just chews the fabric up and knots the thread. I tried adjusting the tension and the needle a million times but it still doesn't work.

I struggle with knitting as well, but I'm mostly put off by the fact that I can't find any patterns that don't make me look like my great-grandmother.

I have a really neat book that has beautiful patterns, but its all above what I can do, I haven't done anything above a simple scarf or blanket yet.

I think Friday depending on what my paycheck looks like I might look into getting a second hand sewing machine, its a hobby I want to pick up again, got a lot of clothes that need repairs, plus I really want to make my own cloth pads.

Did you try with the circular needles or with four needles?

The bad wishes are a bit late, but funnily enough they're much closer to reality than the happy ones. For my twentieth I got to wake up at an ungodly hour in the morning (at which I was so tired I totally forgot it was the anniversary of my escape from the womb until sometime later) then spent the rest of the day squashed into economy class enjoying a distinct lack of birthday cake. Aside from a few thoughts of "Oh hey, I'm two decades old" and "Yay, I'm in London", the stress and exhaustion of long distance travel with the purpose of moving country really made for a bit of a miserable day.

If it's the kind of cloth pads I'm thinking of, I'd recommend buying a few different kinds, finding out what shape and size works for you, and then make your own.
