ennui ~ Beloved always brings me to tears. Great song.

Wish You Were Here (Waters, Gilmour) 5:17

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

This one always makes me cry as well. Reminds me of a friend I haven't seen in ages. I keep hearing it on the radio.

Where ever you've been all these years, I miss you.

No, but that track has been in every previous incarnation of this thread by me, over the years here.

That is without a doubt, my all-time favorite VNV song. It is totally soul-stirring.

I never tire of hearing it. Good Call..

Portishead ~ Wandering Star

Please could you stay awhile to share my grief
For its such a lovely day
To have to always feel this way
And the time that I will suffer less
Is when I never have to wake

Wandering stars, for whom it is reserved
The blackness of darkness forever
Wandering stars, for whom it is reserved
The blackness of darkness forever

... Those who have seen the needles eye, now tread
Like a husk, from which all that was, now has fled
And the masks, that the monsters wear
To feed, upon their prey

Wandering stars, for whom it is reserved
The blackness of darkness forever
Wandering stars, for whom it is reserved
The blackness of darkness forever

[INSTRUMENTAL]

(always) doubled up inside
Take awhile to shed my grief
(always) doubled up inside
Taunted, cruel.... ...

Wandering stars, for whom it is reserved
The blackness of darkness forever
Wandering stars, for whom it is reserved
The blackness of darkness forever

Death `Empty Words`

Empty Words

Ashes and promises share a bond
Through the winds of change
Words are blown away
When visions that should be
Are tattooed in your mind
The power to let go
Is sometimes hard to find

The answer cannot be found
In the writing of others
Or the words of a trained mind
In a precious world of memories
We find ourselves confined

Claws so razor sharp
Ripping at the spirit

Chorus:
Promises a potential to hurt
Is anything real?
When forever is to be until
Deep inside, in the world of empty words...
No escaping from those haunting
empty words...

Solo: Schuldiner

Do you ever feel it?
A craving that is so strong
To by thought rewind in order to find

Expectations that shined through the doubt
That soon would turn into the price
Of what a word will be worth
When tomorrow comes
To be and we are left
Standing on our own-
And seeing what is real...

The answer cannot be found
In the writing of others
Or the words of a trained mind
In a precious world of memories
We find ourselves confined

Claws so razor sharp
Ripping at the spirit

Repeat chorus

Rosetta Stone ~ Nothing

Closing in closing down
It's your cross i cannot bear
Play while you can forgiveness is to understand
I want to undermine you
I know what truth's beyond you
I want to redesign you
I know what lies behind you
Wait and see don't expect too much from me
You're touching on nothing
Touching nothing that is sacred to me
You're touching nothing
Nothing that is sacred to me
Losing touch losing heart
Reflect on what you forced apart
Far removed well deserved
The pointless and the self preserved

TRIVIUM - DYING IN YOUR ARMS

I'm wearing thin wearing out becoming weak
Holding hands with this rope she's my self-destructive
Bleeding disease the things that makes it hard to breathe
But if I shoved you far away
This addict just starved again asphyxiated

[Chorus]
And now I see it's you that's tearing me ensnaring me
This is my dying in your arms I cut you out now set me free

Lynched high above what used to be
In her gallows built for me
So I escaped cut this noose around my
Neck I break free to see the things you blinded me
And I shoved you far away
Now I live the life I dreamed of
You're dead to me

[Chorus x2]

You poisoned my life
So I take this knife
And I cut you out
Cut you out

[Chorus x2]

Rhapsody - Knightriders of Doom

The fading illusion the sirens' grey tears
it's here in the cold air the town's tragic fear
The breath of infernos the rise of the dead
the portals of chaos the seventh black flame

(RIDE) Destino (KNIGHT) mi arrendo
...al tuo dominio del tempo!

IN THIS BLOODY DAWN
I WILL WASH MY SOUL
TO CALL THE SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE
TO DENY MY WISDOM FOR ANGER
TO BREAK THE SCREAM OF THE SILENT FOOL
AND TO BE THE SON OF DOOM...
OF DOOM!
IN THIS BLOOD DAWN
I WILL WASH MY SOUL
TO CALL THE SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE
TO DENY MY WISDOM FOR ANGER
TO BREAK THE SCREAM OF THE SILENT FOOL
TO BE A KNIGHTRIDER OF DOOM...
OF DOOM!

The rites of the unborn the dragonship's fall
the waves of my ocean the twins' holy call
The march of the heroes the call of the gods
after the rituals on the silent shore

(RIDE) Destino (KNIGHT) mi arrendo
...al tuo dominio del tempo!

IN THIS BLOODY DAWN
I WILL WASH MY SOUL
TO CALL THE SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE
TO DENY MY WISDOM FOR ANGER
TO BREAK THE SCREAM OF THE SILENT FOOL
AND TO BE THE SON OF DOOM...
OF DOOM!
IN THIS BLOODY DAWN
I WILL WASH MY SOUL
TO CALL THE SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE
TO DENY MY WISDOM FOR ANGER
TO BREAK THE SCREAM OF THE SILENT FOOL
TO BE A KNIGHTRIDER OF DOOM...
OF DOOM!

Disease

You're love it tortures me
One kiss and I can't breathe
One touch I'm suffocating
Get me out I can't breathe
Afflicted feelings I should hide
There was a thousand warnings
Thought this devotion I'd deny
I turn to things that harm me

You're a disease
Sweet tasting rabies
You suck the life right out of me
Set me free

I think of nothing all the time
Sometimes it's nothing but you
You shouldn't mean a thing to me
This shouldn't be
A stabbing pain stuck in my side
Not sure why I adore you
A strangled chocking little cry
I would do all things for you

Leave me be
Set me free
Your'e a disease and you spread this on to me.

Flogging Molly - Don't Let Me Die

I walk these streets where my soulless feet
Haunt the ground where it was I once tread
On Grafton's Arcade pours the rich commerce rain
Though the voices I no longer hear speak
Heaven's to blame so on that I'll abstain
Best clean the church from my cracked fingernail

But don't let me die still wondering
What it was I left behind

From God's golden plate begrudgers they eat
Till their belly's burst ignorance bliss
Never they roam a wanderless home
Is as far as their sorry eye sees
Give me a rusty ol' goat weak trampled and soaked
Until these ashes and blood mingle deep

But don't let me die still wondering
What it was I left behind

Though I've been that face before
Slammed every open door
Squandered once scattered beliefs
So when the waves come crashin' in
I'll swim as the ocean swims
Out with the morning tide
Then back for my tea

So I'll do as I please like the well-tempered breeze
Blowin' which way I see fit
I'll grey with the clay seven days till the day
When they throw me on the potter's scrap heap
But take my advice; you'll have to bury me twice
Cause the first time I won't rest easily

But don't let die still wondering
What it was I left behind

So don't let die still wondering
What it was I left behind
I want a race well run ahead of the gun
With a dance before the far finish line
So no life long regrets, only well feathered steps
Until these shoes I can longer shine

But don't let me die still wanderin'
For the love I left behind

This song is a bit of an epic, but a classic !!!

Iron Maiden `Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner`

Hear the rime of the Ancient Mariner
See his eye as he stops one of three
Mesmerises one of the wedding guests
Stay here and listen to the nightmares
of the Sea

And the music plays on, as the bride passes by
Caught by his spell and
the Mariner tells his tale.

Driven south to the land of the snow and ice
To a place where nobody's been
Through the snow fog flies on the albatross
Hailed in God's name,
hoping good luck it brings.

And the ship sails on, back to the North
Through the fog and ice and
the albatross follows on

The mariner kills the bird of good omen
His shipmates cry against what he's done
But when the fog clears, they justify him
And make themselves a part of the crime.

Sailing on and on and North across the sea
Sailing on and on and North 'till all is calm

The albatross begins with its vengeance
A terrible curse a thirst has begun
His shipmates blame bad luck on the Mariner
About his neck, the dead bird is hung.

And the curse goes on and on at sea
And the curse goes on and on for them and me.

"Day after day, day after day,
we stuck nor breath nor motion
As idle as a painted ship upon a painted ocean
Water, water everywhere and
all the boards did shrink
Water, water everywhere nor any drop to drink."

(SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE (1798-1834))

There, calls the mariner
there comes a ship over the line
But how can she sail with no wind
in her sails and no tide.

See... onward she comes
Onwards she nears, out of the sun
See... she has no crew
She has no life, wait but there's two

Death and she Life in Death,
they throw their dice for the crew
She wins the Mariner and he belongs to her now.
Then ... crew one by one
They drop down dead, two hundred men
She... She, Life in Death.
She lets him live, her chosen one.

NARRATIVE
"One after one by the star dogged moon,
too quick for groan or sigh
Each turned his face with a ghastly pang
and cursed me with his eye
Four times fifty living men
(and I heard nor sigh nor groan),
With heavy tramp, a lifeless lump,
they dropped down one by one."

(SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE (1798-1834))

The curse it lives on in their eyes
The Mariner he wished he'd die
Along with the sea creatures
But they lived on, so did he.

And by the light of moon
He prays for their beauty not doom
With heart he blesses them
God's creatures all of them too.

Then the spell starts to break
The albatross falls from his neck
Sinks down like lead into the Sea
Then down in falls comes the rain.

Hear the groans od the long dead seamen
See them stir and they start to rise
Bodies lifted by good spirits
None of them speak
and they're lifeless in their eyes

And revenge is still sought, penance starts again
Cast into a trance and the nightmare carries on.

Now the curse is finally lifted
And the Mariner sights his home
Spirits go from the long dead bodies
Form their own light and
the Mariner's left alone

And then a boat came sailing towards him
It was a joy he could not believe
The Pilot's boat, his son and the hermit
Penance of life will fall onto Him.

And the ship it sinks like lead into the sea
And the hermit shrieves the mariner of his sins

The Mariner's bound to tell of his story
To tell his tale wherever he goes
To teach God's word by his own example
That we must love all things that God made.

And the wedding guest's a sad and wiser man
And the tale goes on and on and on.

Hell yeah, I like this song. Came as a surprise to me when I found out this song was based on a poem. The only good thing I learned in High School.

Therion - The Khlysti Evangelist

Rasputin, the Black Munk's
Coming like a new born

In Sibiria you saw the Black Munk preach
Russian Gnostic words of hidden wisdom
See the mistery in the ecstatic eyes
Hear a song as sinful as the moon

Rasputin, your fever
Will infect the women

Fell the ecstacy when he inverts the world
Secret Gnostic rites of Khlysti Gospel
FollowRasputin in the enchanted dance
Feel a heat as ardent as the snow

And Finally

Therion - The Dreams of Swedenborg

Wake up in the darkest hour!
Angels are surrounding you
In the borderland of heaven
Lucid are yor dreams tonight

Open a door, a gate in a dream
(The) dead will pass by to show you the sky

[chorus:]
Astral presence everywhere
In the dreams of Swedenborg
He could see across the sky
Through the boundaries of time
Lucid dreams and astral sight
In the dreams of Swedenborg
Every part of universe's
Corresponding to the world

Dream a vision clear and splendid
When you visit afterlife
Daedalus Hyperboreus
Delinate the astral world

Write all your dreams in your diary
Give to the world a glimpse of the sky

[chorus repeat]

Testament: Disciples of the Watch

Disciples of the Watch

Cast to the fire
Banned by the light
Worship and listen to me
Condemned in his mind
In his evil place
Your fate is all that you'll see
I am the one
To show you the path
Salvation is in the fields
Listen up children and follow me
Or I'll let you pay the price
Of malachi!

Disciples of the watch
Obey!
Or I'll burn you to that cross!

Holding the mass
The demon is cast
To resurrect your soul
Calling to him
Is like an evil sin
A prophet is what they're told
Taking the land under command
Killing friend or fore
Feel the might of his evil wrath
Desecrate your soul!

Disciples of the watch
Obey!
Or I'll burn you to that cross!

Cast to the fire
Banned by the light
Worship and listen to me
Condemned in his mind
In his evil place
Your fate is all that you'll see
For I am the one
To show you the path
Salvation is in the fields
Listen up children and follow me
Or I'll let you pay the price
Of malachi!

Disciples of the watch
Obey!
Or I'll burn you to that cross!

Mad World - Gary Jules

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places
Worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
Going no where
Going no where
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression
No expression
Hide my head I wanna drown my sorrow
No tomorrow
No tomorrow
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it's a very very
Mad world
Mad world
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy birthday
Happy birthday
And I feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen
Sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me
No one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me
Look right through me
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it's a very very
Mad world
Mad world
Enlarging your world
Mad world

Dark -- IllDisposed

DARK

In this land we are strong
"What gives" you ask
Through the times prove us wrong
Dark sun
Dark eyes
Recieve
Dark tears

And when I look up at the sun
The sun that beams through the heavens
The end of time has just begun
There's nothing left

AGH

In this land I am strong
"What gives" you ask
Check my story prove me wrong
We see
Through this
Dark life
Recieved

And when I look up at the sun
The sun that beams through the heaven
The end of time has just begun
There's nothing left

Squeeze - Up the Junction

I never thought it would happen with me and the girl from Clapham
Out on a windy common
That night I ain't forgotten
When she dealt out the rations with some or other passions
I said you are a lady
Perhaps she said I may be

We moved into a basement with thoughts of our engagement
We stayed in by the telly
Although the room was smelly
We spent our time just kissing, the Railway Arms we're missing
But love had got us hooked up
And all our time it took up

I got a job with Stanley, he said I'd come in handy
And started me on Monday
So I had a bath on Sunday
I worked eleven hours and bought the girl some flowers
She said she'd seen a doctor
And nothing now could stop her

I worked all through the winter
The weather brass and bitter
I put away a tenner
Each week to make her better
And when the time was ready
We had to sell the telly
Late evenings by the fire
With little kicks inside her

This morning at 4:50, I took her rather nifty
Down to an incubator
Where thirty minutes later
She gave birth to a daughter, within a year a walker
She looked just like her mother
If there could be another

And now she's two years older, her mother's with a soldier
She left me when my drinking
Became a proper stinging
The devil came and took me from bar to street to bookie
No more nights by the telly
No more nights nappies smelling

Alone here in the kitchen, I feel there's something missing
I'd beg for some forgiveness
But begging's not my business
And she won't write a letter although I always tell her
And so it's my assumption
I'm really up the junction

Mad about you (by Hooverphonic, one of the best Belgian bands, and actually just one of the best bands on earth)

Feel the vibe, feel the terror, feel the pain
It’s driving me insane
I can’t fake
For God sakes why am i
Driving in the wrong lane
Trouble is my middle name
But in the end I’m not too bad
Can someone tell me if it’s wrong to be so mad about you
Mad about you
Mad
Are you the fishy wine that will give me
A headache in the morning
Or just a dark blue land mine
That’ll explode without a decent warning
Give me all your true hate
And I’ll translate it in our bed
Into never seen passion, never seen passion
That it why I am so mad about you
Mad about you
Mad about you
Mad
Trouble is your middle name
But in the end you’re not too bad
Can someone tell me if it’s wrong to be
So mad about you
Mad about you
Mad
Give me all your true hate
And I’ll translate it in your bed
Into never seen passion
That is why I am so mad about you
Mad about you

Isn't this the most beautiful lovesong in the world?

Closer To The Heart

And the men who hold high places
Must be the ones to start
To mould a new reality
Closer to the Heart

The Blacksmith and the Artist
Reflect it in their art
Forge their creativity
Closer to the Heart

Philosophers and Ploughmen
Each must know his part
To sow a new mentality
Closer to the Heart

You can be the Captain
I will draw the Chart
Sailing into destiny
Closer to the Heart

Anybody Listening?

You and I long to live like wind upon the water.
If we close our eyes,
we'll maybe realize there's more to life than what we have known.
And I can't believe I've spent so long living lies I knew were wrong inside,

I've just begun to see the light.
Long ago there was a dream, had to make a choice or two.
Leaving all I loved behind, for what nobody knew.
Stepped out on the stage, a life under lights and judging eyes.
Now the applause has died and I can dream again...

Is there anybody listening?
Is there anyone that sees what's going on?
Read between the lines, critisize the words they're selling.
Think for yourself and feel the walls become sand beneath your feet.
Feel the breeze?

There's so near you can almost taste the freedom,
there's a warm wind from the south. Hoist the sail and we'll be gone,
by morning, this will all seem like a dream.
And if I don't return to sing the song, maybe just as well.

I've seen the news and there's not much I can do... alone.
Is there anybody listening?
Is there anyone who smiles without a mask?
What's behind the words -
images they know will please us?
I'll take what's real.
Bring up the lights.

Is there anybody listening?
Is there anyone that sees what's going on? Read between the lines,
criticize the words they're selling.
Think for yourself and feel the walls...
become sand beneath your feet.

for times of fun and jubilation, one can often hear Jay and Silent Bob's rap:

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Mother mother fuck. Mother mother fuck fuck. Mother fuck mother fuck.
Noise noise noise.
1 2 1 2 3 4
Noise noise noise.
Smokin weed, smokin weed.
Doin' coke, drinkin beers.
Drinkin beers, beers beers.
Rollin' fatties, smokin blunts.
Who smokes the blunts? We smoke the blunts.
Rollin' blunts and smokin um'

<spoken by some punk-ass kid>
hey dude can i get a nickelback?

15 bucks, little man, put that shit in my hand.
If that money doesn't show then you owe me owe me owe.
My jungle love.
Oh e oh e oh.
I think I wanna know ya know ya ... yeah, what.

oooh yeah,snoochy boochies

Dropkick Murphys - Forever

Never take your loved ones for granted:
They could be gone tomorrow"
all of my dreams seem to fall by the side like a discarded thought
Or the day's fading light
But I know that if I could just see you tonight forever
At times we may fall, like we all tend to do
But I'll reach out and find that I've run into you
your strength is the power that carried me through forever

Your kindness for weakness I never mistook I worried you often,
yet you understood that life is so fleeting,
these troubles won't last forever
Inspired me truly you did from the start to not be afraid
and to follow my heart
There's a piece of you with me they can't tear apart forever

Forever I'll find you,
forever we'll be
Forever your power and strength
stays with me

For my friends and family.
