Ulysses.

I'm about one hundred pages in and so far I think that it has moments of brilliance but is generally self-indulgent wank. What do you guys think? Literary classic or plain twattery?

Both. I don't think it has to be either one exclusively, and in this book the flashes of brilliance are strong enough to carry off the tedious intellectual masturbation.
