Nine Inch Nails

I love Nine Inch Nails. Trent Reznor has great songs. My favourite is "Sin" from Pretty Hate Machine. Even though I have more favourite songs of his, Sin is my favourite.

As something similar to a rivethead, I hate NIN, hah.

They have a couple good songs, though: "Head like a Hole" and "Hand that Feeds."

I saw them in concert with Bauhaus, and they have amazing live shows. Great lighting, and they don't play the boring songs [aka the majority] live.

i'm afraid they've strayed a bit far from what they were...trent is still hot...but i dont think i like were he's taken their sound.

Bands always "sway" thats good though, some people may like it, others will like the older albums even more if they dont like the new stuff.

yes...but i also believe that if a band is onto a good thing they should'nt lose the plot. losing the plot = losing loyal old fans...If Iron Maiden could pull it off, why cant others learn by example?

Probably true, but if they dont expariment they cant get an outside perspective... then they do the same thing over and over again until its so worn out its just "old and busted"

I've always loved Nine Inch Nails. I own nearly every album of theirs and have seen them a few times live. The last concert of theirs I saw was with Bauhaus. Trent Reznor and Peter Murphy sang a song called "Final Solution" together. What an amazing experience!

What a great thread, especially the first post where the word "Favourite" is misused mercilessly...

Anyway...*withdraws claws* some news -

US outfit Nine Inch Nails have completed work on an all new studio album, titled "Year Zero", which will be the follow-up to 2005's "With Teeth". Due out in April 2007 "Year Zero" would sound completely different to anything you have heard from him or any other musicians before. The remark goes hand in hand with Reznor's remark in Rolling Stone that he's frustrated with the latest rock trend saying that everything tends to sound the same.

Trent: "If I happen to accidentally turn the radio on... I literally can't tell the difference between one of 20 bands. Either I'm getting old, which is a fact, or I'm turning into my dad! I wonder about the person that's in a band, the young kid who just got signed or is trying to get signed -- why is he doing it? Is he trying to change the world and do something different and express himself... or is it because they want to fuck Paris Hilton and be photographed outside trendy restaurants?"

In a January 11, 2007 posting on on the official NIN fan club web site 'The Spiral', Reznor adds: "Let me clear a few things up so some of you don't kill yourselves (or maybe you now will). This is not a fucking hip hop record, for fuck's sake. I imagine my referring to old Public Enemy records as an influence and the fact I'm working with Saul sparked that."

And in a recent interview with England's Kerrang! magazine, Reznor described the upcoming album's as "a collage of sound type of thing, not heavy in a metal guitar kind of way." Most of the 15-track album was recorded in hotel rooms around the world on laptops with very few musicians beside himself and some uest vocalists. Nine Inch Nails will start a two-month European tour beginning on February 10th. The band will also release a live DVD, "Beside You In Time", on February 27th documenting the band's tour in support of "With Teeth".

sure iron maiden can pull it off. but nin didn't write amazing hot licks, such as 'number of the beast,' and '2 minutes to midnight.' ;insert pick squeal;

anyway, dillinger esc plan made 'wish' sound better than nin ever could have.

I really don't like NIN. They're cover of Joy Division's 'Dead Souls' makes me vomit.

I really like them, in theory. In reality, I haven't listened to their music for well over half a year. Perhaps (probably) that's because I listened to their music so impossibly often that I overdosed. Besides, my tastes have shifted.

I'm very happy to hear that they're coming out with a new record, however, regardless of how inarticulate Reznor may be.

If you like NIN (and even if you don't), visit the Meathead Perspective page. He's amazingly funny when he hits the mark.

Nine Inch Nails - Right Where It Belongs

See the animal in it's cage that you built
Are you sure what side you're on
Better not look him too closely in the eye
Are you sure what side of the glass you are on
See the safety of the life you have built
Everything where it belongs
Feel the hollowness inside of your heart
And it's all
Right where it belongs

[Chorus]
What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems
What if all the world you think you know
Is an elaborate dream
And if you look at your reflection
Is it all you wanted to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks
Would you find yourself
Find yourself afriad to see?

What if all the world's inside of your heart
Just creations of your own
Your devils and your gods
All the living and the dead
And you really are alone
You can live in this illusion
You can choose to believe
You keep looking but you can't find the words
Are you hiding in the dreams?

Great lyrics, good melancholic song. Though it's like the only NINsong I like.

I love the Dead souls song. It's one of my fav's. I saw them in Fresno a couple of years ago and they were f'n great. Although since they were recording for an album the nazis were out stamping out all fun. I didn't like the last cd too much though. I think he needs to go back on the drugs if he's going to make music like that (there were a couple of good songs). Another couple of my favs are Burn and Wish. *sigh..if only I were gay and trent liked me.. or I was a woman.....or something ...lmao*

They put on a great live show and have some really catchy tunes. However... they're really just another synthpop band in my eyes. They're maybe a LITTLE goth, but seriously, when you write songs THAT mainstream-appealable, you're not exactly out for the dark side of culture.

Listen to the REAL, NOT-COVERED version by Joy Division.

If you like NIN be sure to check out GARY NUMAN. This guy inspired NIN, but I would advise you to listen to his newer albums first like Jagged, Hybrid, and pure. If you don't recognize the name follow this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cdgTWitj_o
link then you will definatly remember him. But like i said that is his old stuff, His new stuff is better for NIN fans

Heh, couldn't resist popping in another recommendation of Gary numan.

Yeah, Nine Inch Nails is definitely great. I don't listen to them the way I did why back in my HS freshman year (which means "to the exclusion of all else") but I still get stoked when I hear about something new from NIN, or if I hear that they'll play a nearby venue.
