START treaty

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics...,2938843.story

I was watching the senate debate last night on cspan. Hadn't even heard anything about it on the regular news. Seems kinda abrupt but necessary.

Am I alone in thinking that weapons treaties are pointless?

I'm guessing this isn't as much about weapons, as it is about the treaty apparently being able to strengthen our ties with Russia, due to it calling both parties to mandatorily exchange information...which has been at a halt for a year since the last "start" treaty ended. We've been in the dark...and its freaking the intellegence committee out.

I think the main reason why its being rushed right now, is because of our current vulnerability towards obvious countries. *cough*n.korea.

The Republican senators are pissed as fuck though, due to the treaty wanting to cut our nuclear arms by 1 third... they kept mentioning how we have missiles pointed at us in Iran. How we're not modernized enough etc etc.

Seriously. International law actually matters to most other countries.

Really? You see, I wouldn't put it past the US to withhold information to their allies and being so, I can only assume that any other country would do the same if they're capable of it. And Russia is.

There's always withheld information, but that goes only insofar as the prisoner's dilemma applies. It's a huge difference than the attitude of treaties being only non-binding pieces of paper.

The START treaties have never mattered. It has nothing to do with following through with what is agreed upon, it's simply the fact that it does not take thousands of (when in fact there are TENS of thousands in existence) nuclear weapons to send the entire planet into the stone-age.

You are very right! In comparison to human history, or the age of the earth in general, it really isn't a long time.

I just wanted to compare the difference between Sayains when they fought the Tuffles, and Sayains when they met the Arkosians.

Thanks for this. Pissed off because they'd have to reduce their nukes by a third? OH NO! To be able to end the world only TWO times rather than three? The horror.

Seriously. You would think being able to kill everyone was enough.
