Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

Does anyone listen to Nightwish? (A question)
Someone suggested Nightwish to me, so I downloaded "Wishmaster." I just listened to "Come Cover Me." The very beginning reminded me of something that I heard long ago, but I can't put my finger on it. I want to say the old PSX RPG "Wild ARMS," but I'm not certain. Does anyone know?

Nightwish, I could've said a lot of bad things about that band, but I'll refrain from doing so. I'm not very fond of the pseudo- operatic style their former singer displays in the songs. Anyway, there's a whole lot of other bands that sound like them - Lacuna Coil, for instance. Oh, and while on the topic of Nightwish, if you like them, let me recommend another band to you; Subway to Sally from Germany. They're more "folk metal", but kick ass anyway.

Nightwish is a really awful extremely weak excuse for power metal. They call themselves 'opera metal' to get away with it.
On the other hand, they have a huge following.
Even though they suck.

I like Nightwish! They're pretty good ^^ "Nemo" and "moondance" are the best songs IMO ... >> hmmm... I'm pretty sure they didn't sing for Wild Arms xD At leat not 2/3 or 4... maybe the first one? But I think it was just music? Can't remember.

I could be wrong but Nemo was made by a finnish Humppaband that do a lot of covers before Nightwish took it. I put it to mind since it's usually the other way around...

Okay, just to set the record straight, I learned about them literally three hours ago. I don't care what you think of them. (In fact, I have to decide whether or not I myself like them.) I just want to know what I stated in my first post.

Oh, sorry, I missed your post. I just saw several people giving their opinions on the band without actually answering my question.
Yeah, it reminds me of the first one (though the tune from the fourth one sounds basically the same).

I started to listen to nightwish fairly recently. I like Nemo a lot, it was the song that got me into the band.

I love nightwish... but I don't think I like the new lead singer. She sounded a lot like within temptation's lead singer in the song they realsed.
Sorry can't help you with your question...

Nightwish is so terribly boring...
I can't bring myself to listen to it. It just seems so pointless.

Nightwish was some of the bands that got me into metal i the first place. I used to like most of their stuff, but now days I tend to find most of it really boring, escept for the Century Child album wich is great. Interesting keyboard melodies and groovey riffing. Their cover of Lloyd-Webber's Phantom of the Opera is also awesome.
btw. I can NOT understand why anyone likes Nemo. Nightwish has always been a power metal band, but since (here in europe) the baby bats listen to them people began to label them goth metal... and I'm guessing that with Nemo they tried to make a goth song, and at the same time make it really really poppish so it'd sell well. (They managed to do that last thing, the song was a hit, not among metalheads or goths... but among mainstreamers and off course: the baby bats...) God I hate that song.

I sort of liked them. You could find some songs by them in m iPod.
Eventually, they became annoying. Tarja's voice is not that good.
But the real reason that made me forget them altogether is far more superficial:
I hate that everyone likes them.
Remember my opinion of the Misfits and how I don't listen to them because they're heavily overrated?
Well, Nightwish is far worse.
For some reason, Nightwish has become the epitome of what assholes that can't do their research feel is gothic music, at least in Latin America.
Nightwish is like Marylin Manson, only worse.
Manson at least had some nice songs, and he's confused as gothic by the mainstream.
Meanwhile (again, at least in Latin America) Nightwish is not known by the mainstream, and is confused as gothic by all the gothic posers (called 'darketos' and how I hate the fucking term) around.
See? If someone says Manson is gothic, it's because he does not know any better. But if someone says Nightwish is gothic, he'll fight against you with teeth and nails and maybe even poke you with his shitty black nail polish brush because he truly believes that listening to them makes him goth.

Nightwish is a band that is not always good, in fact they are very rarely good, however the few songs that I do like I listened to sufficently to place them in my "most listened" to list, though I listen to them alot less these days.
I could give shit all about whether a band is gothic, as long as I get some enjoyment out of it. Why should I care what some overly self patriotic fucktard thinks of them?

But that never came in the thread's question. What does it have to do with anything?

I also personally do not recognise anything similar to Wishmaster in Wild Arms...great game though.
Godlsayer it was an extension of the topic through a progression of personal address to the topic, sort of like the chain of events for a "successful" improvisation

I see it more as an arbitrary and heavily offensive attempt at rhetoric.

Well you're entitled to percieve it as you wish, however if I offended you to any great degree (and I ddi not mean to) then I do apologise however I will not retract it as it is a statement of personal fact.
So please excuse my bursts of vehemence
