Yar. Japan's rage-quake sent it everywhere. I think Hawaii's west coast is being evacuated right now.

It's not that big a deal here in Cali (Orange county). My hotel is about fifty feet away from the sand and guests from out of state are flipping their shit, calling me up every two minutes because all they heard was tsumani and didn't stop to actually find out the facts, which is that (if it hits, which it normally doesn't when we get tsunami warnings) it's gonna be 3 feet. Our beach isn't even closed and the shit's supposed to hit in 20 minutes, though Newport which is like fifteen minutes away is closed.

Do they think I'm so dedicated to my work that I would show up if there was supposed to be a huge tidal wave coming to destroy me? Hell no.

Shit, one of the nuclear plants seems to have had an explosion of some sort at the containment building. All the sources I can find don't say much more than that. May god help them.

Edit:Looks like the surrounding area is being told to prepare for the worst, told to restrict ventilation, cover their mouths, and not drink any tap water.

Ironically enough, this is actually good for Japan.

Look at history.

They have had a history of bad earth quakes. Each one decimated large chunks of the country. After each one they got tonnes of aid from around the world and that allowed them to rebuild bigger and better than before.

Then trend stopped in the 1900's, but then America nuked them and again the process started over.

Like a phoenix from the ashes they always come back bigger, better, and more technologically advanced. That's what happens when all of your factories are rebuilt from scratch every 50 years or so.

I feel bad for the people there, but they will not only get through it, they are about to again take over the technology industry, if their history is any indicator of things to come.

...and so far it has been, like clockwork through the centuries.

Ah just have to worry about the rumours about a nuclear reactor that has been badly damaged in the quake.

Terrible images of the Tsunami washing over the countryside though.

Southern tip of Cali wasn't hit by big waves. I think Santa Cruz and neighboring Northern Cali were affected.

Hey it's not the first time this sort of thing has been said. I heard that when Pakistan was affected by an earthquake they hardly got any money from the US, but Haiti got everyone bending over backwards to give them money. The reason? Because Pakistan is considered to harbor terrorists.

Oh and apparently one of the Japanese politicians said that only God can help them with the Nuclear reactor which is going to go Chernobyl.

And apparently all the airlines have said to their passengers "sorry you have to fly when you booked your seat" except Qantas which is helping their customers change their flights and get the heck out of there.

Nothing like Air NewZealand who put on flights out of Christchurch and sold seats for $50, so people could afford to leave the devastated area.

I know what you mean, my best friend teaches English in Kobe. Kobe was absolutely fine, and she's far from the nuclear plant and being a sweety and housing people from Fukushima, but I'm still really worried.
