Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

I have a three manual drawknob Rodgers. It's good for practice even though it's a toaster. I'm thinking about getting a Roland C30 and chopping it, the legs and lid suck.

I grew up playing piano, though I quit playing for a long time. Been getting back into it lately and trying my hand at Dad's old accordian.

Over the time I had posted that, I had deducted that analog is the only way to go, so I shall be getting a residential pipe organ :P

Lethean,
Check out the song I`ve just mentioned above, and see what you think of that melody in the main verse !!!.

Ah, Dio, he's quite unique... I like it. The begining keyboard bit sounds like the stuff I do when fooling around with odd arpeggioes.
As for the main verse, it sounds so familiar... But then again it seems to be using an arabic scale *I usually use melodic minors*

Melodic minor scales rule, it was the first scale I ever learned !!!.
Lethean you should try the Hungarian Gypsy scale, its awesome, and dont forget the Spanish Gypsy or Roumanian minor scales for that added awesomeness !!!.
Here they are for guitar players ...
Spanish Gypsy
Roumanian minor

It's a custom one built for this chapel I know, it's small enough to fit in my house, and the chapel needs to rid themselves of it for a *shudder* small electric organ.

Sadly my schedule hasn't cooperated with my instrument, which happens to be loud and tiring, the drums. I'm always home late when I can't play, which bugs me. I've been tapping my feet to songs to make sure I at least don't lose a sense of rhythm. Recently, I've learned I can tap my feet to the fast part of Ravenous by Arch Enemy. I used to absolutely suck at double bass pedal speed. Believe it or not, the tapping with my feet on the floor by my desk helped a lot! I hopped on the drums the other day when I finally had a chance, and decided to see how fast I could double pedal. I tapped four on the drum sticks and did what I normally do at my desk. After a quick repositioning of my seat, I was able to play the speed of the fast bass drum part consistently. Admittedly, it's amazingly exhausting, but none the less, it worked. Sadly, I have really cheap drum pedals so if I do it for too long the spring falls out and I have to readjust the tension. Still, I'm proud of meself

I plan to fuck around with a theremin pretty soon. And I'd never have guessed it'd be Bill Bailey to inspire me to do so. Yes, as in Manny of Black Books. His show last night featured one and it sounded fucking AMAZING.
So yay. Theremin time. And maybe a didgeridoo...

Haha, I tried playing the Didg once. It sounded like a sick elephant whoŽd had slightly more than his share of baked beans...

I was going to say that maybe they think that because you'll never find an instrument as phallic as that, but I figured I'd double check first....
And you do not wanna know the things I found by googling "penis flute".

Banjo, harmonica, Bodhran, African drums, bongos, congas, maracas and various percussion instruments, recorder, and various flutes and tin whistles. (Used to play the ukelele, but somebody stole it).

I sing, play guitar, bass, double bass and the recorder/tin whistle, I am learning the piano/keyboard and hopefully getting a ukelele soon. I've tried learning the drums too... my main issue is that every time I make a mistake, I have a tendency to stop playing and yell profanities...
Also I really really really want to learn the cello.

AMC, I've always wanted to learn the cello, too. Used to play the fife, but that got stolen along with the ukelele. (Don't you just hate that). Always wanted to learn the balalaika and the bazouki, oh yeah, and the samisen.

Anyone know of a retail keyboard that can emulate cathedral pipes? ...Or church pipes in general.
