Nicotine is a stimulant. A lot of people say that it relaxes them and makes them more awake. Combine nicotine with a lot of the chemicals found in cigarettes (or even just tobacco), and it can even mimic a mild painkiller.

I know a guy named Cliff that would let you do that :P
Being a non-smoker, I halfway support the right to smoke, as long as they don't blow the fucking smoke in my face.

Necro: For some of us, it's obviously a bigger deal than for some.
Given the amount of close family members I have, I'd -love- to not be allergic to it or think it stinks. But, I am, and it does.

I agree with you Tam, it stinks fucking horrible. I think that the smokers have the right to kill themselves slow and painful if they want to though.

OMG the weed vs. cigarettes battle will destroy all of gothic.net and parts of Japan.
Anyway, they both smell bad and have side effects, but the side effects are no worse than being a slob. I think we should all get along and have pot cigarettes like the English.

Yeah, I know they have the right. But I sure am getting tired of watching the people I love slowly destroy themselves; it's just too sad and heartbreaking.
My sis had hip replacement surgery a few months ago. She's a huge smoker. The doctor told her she'd have to stop smoking or the replacement metal wouldn't be able to adhere to the bone, and thus she wouldn't be able to walk. Did this stop her from smoking? No. Apparently, she'd rather smoke than walk. It's effing ridiculous.

How about all smokers switch to clove cigarettes instead? They smell much much better, and I don't think I'm quite as allergic to their smoke.

I smoke about three-fourths of a pack a day. It is a part of my regular schedule. I like the smell on me and other people. In fact, it is about time for a smoke break.

Put it this way, since I started smoking 5 years ago, My asthma specialist noticed an increase of 75% to 100% in my lung capacity, you don't just grow out of asthma from one month to the next, it doesn't work like that.

A pleasant nictotine buzz when you're stressed or simply want one for the hell of it.
Plus you can smoke perfectly legally outside ( it's banned in enclosed public places , shops, workplaces ect here but outside anywhere is fine ) which you cannot do with weed ( in public of course ) and being hammered out of your brain on beer or whatever on your lunchbreak at work will not help you keep your job very long. Plus you have the added risk of the usual idiocy that occurs when drunk ( whilst often funny it's best kept to nights out with friends )
I've never been a heavy smoker at all. I have one or two a week if at all though I do have a couple more if at a gig or out with friends . Currently I haven't had one for two weeks. I simply haven't felt like having one. For me it's not an addiction, just an occasional pleasure. I have recently taken to smoking the occasional pipe ( tobacco not weed ) as I do like pipe tobacco and fancied giving it a go. Still needs practice to keep the bugger alight.

Can you really be allergic to cigarette smoke?

Sorry, man; despite that, I just can't see the little emphysema sticks as more healthy for you than, say, an inhaler and a doctor. :/

Tam, how do they test you for that?
Is it like with other allergy test or do they just blow smoke in your face for a few minutes?
Andddddd what happens when you have a reaction to it?
Sorry if it's too many questions, I've just never heard of that allergy before.

It sounds strange, yet some people are. I knew someone who was and even if you cleaned and aired out everything they would have sneezing attacks. They find out with Histomine tests. I want to take one to find out want particular shell fish I'm allergic to.
So this sounds bad but some people are allergic to perfume and no one is banning perfume, even though it might be a good idea.

Every time I'm around someone who's smoking, my sinuses go crazy. I go to the doctor with my sinus problems. He asks me what kind of environment I live in. I tell him that every time I'm around smokers, I get a hideous reaction. If I'm not around smokers while they're smoking, then I'm fine.
The doctor has never done a test on me; they never had to, since whenever I went to the doctor I was with my mom, who always reeked of smoke.

For me, it's itchy throat and nose, watery eyes, difficulty breathing, instant mucus flood, massive headache, etc. Some folks aren't quite as sensitive, some are even more so.

No worries; it's an allergy that's rather played-down. It's not much different than being allergic to pollen or dust, really. Some folks are more allergic, some less.

Catch: Perfume doesn't cause potentially deadly diseases, and smells much much better. [That is, it does if the person doesn't overdo it. XD]
Perfume makes me sneeze and gives me a headache if there's too much of it, but it doesn't give me nearly the problems that cig smoke does. It's not nearly as deadly.

It is usually diagnosed based on having a repeated reaction to being around smokers as it is nearly impossible to test for an allergy to every one of the additives that are common in cigs, which are frequently the culprits, though a tobacco allergy is easier to diagnose as it will present no matter what brand of cig is used and will also present when pipes or tobacco are used.
As with most allergies the reaction depends on the specific case. I get migraines, other people cough or sneeze, and still others can actually go into full anaphylactic shock, though that is rare.

Yet it has the same production problems cigarettes do, with human rights laws being broken willy nilly. Such is life, eh? Let's ban everything, who needs freedom? I'm banning freedom right now.

I'm banning Catch for the good of humanity. Catch, don't come back, otherwise this won't seem legit.

Even if she did try an listed to you she would only forget this place and then eventually find her way back under another user name, completely unaware that she had been here before until she posted a picture and someone says "hey isn't she that crazy chick?" It wouldn't be the first time.
