Some cool wedding Ideas?

We ave a relatively small budget for our wedding (about $5,000 and my mom is buying/making my dress) Any Ideas for some cool DIY decorating projects? We are going for somewhat traditional with funky, dark twists. Examples:

Our Cake toppers (didn't buy them off ebay, but this is the only pic I could find of them online)

My mom is making my dress, and this is what we are going for, except different colrs and I demand a Bustle. (She used to make costumes for a Theater troupe)

And she is making captured Fairies as part of the centerpieces. Like this, except a little darker.

Any other cool Ideas?

I don't know if you are a flowers kind of gal but if you live in an area that has wild flowers you can pick bunches of those for free. A good friend of mine just got married and they had the most beautiful flowers but all together the arrangements only cost about $50 because they picked all of the flowers themselves and just had to buy ribbon (turns out that queen ann's lace may be a weed but it looks way better then babies breath)

Also if you are creative you can really dress up cheap venues instead of paying a lot more for one that is easier/more conventional

Instead of the confetti type table sprinkles, use deep red rose petals.

Drape the tables with some black tafetta or other dark fabric ( is there a market or fabric warehouse near you? )

See if you can find a website on making small decorative boxes. Then you can make dark or spooky little gift boxes for the guests, containing some dark chocolates or miniature bottles of dark rum

awesome Ideas. Thank the goddess we don't have to pay for a Venue though, Brandon's mom is letting us use her Garden and the Trelis she used for HER wedding.

Personally, I LOVE Flowers and want LOTS of them,. but Brandon wants to keep them minimal, so hopefully we can find a happy medium.

Honeythorn: Those are such cute Ideas! Yesterday I was watching a wedding show and they had a Pirate themed wedding and the centerpieces where treasure chests full of chocolate gold coins. I love the Idea of Little bottles of Rum.

My friend's parents had a Halloween wedding, every guest just had to dress up. So if you're looking for something with a dark twist, and your friends are willing, you can try that.

My Brother and his gf want a Halloween wedding. I think they can turn one of two ways. I have seen one that turned out amazing and one that turned out very cheesy. What would be cool is I could alter my Renaissance gown to fit me again. (I was 12 when mom made it for me) I am trying to get Him to wear chainmail.....I'm finding it to be challenging.

Make sure theres a center piece thats pretty also photo albums are nice as well. I love this website its really helpful

Oh, I will still marry him, lol. I would marry him even if he insisted on everything being pink and fluffy.
