I've been noticing this site pretty much does nothing but harsh on people a lot more lately and at least to me it's getting real old. It would be nice to see more than just the same ten members posting excessively. I mean, that's all i see on this site anymore is people busting each others hump. Everyone wants to point the finger and say you have the mentality of a 10 year old and so on. Well how do you know they aren't mentally handicapped or something. I just think the ballbusting is way out of control and limits the amount of people who would want to be a part of this site. And without traffic on this site there would be no sponsors for advertisement. This site would be more fun with more people that share the same opinions.
Sure there are assholes, I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about the individual that spells a couple words wrong and getpersonally attacked and then asked to leave. Or told to fuck off, and get insulted on there way out.
I mean really what makes some of you better than anyone else, just because someone makes a spelling mistake.
It's really rediculous.
I like it here it's just getting way to negative now.
People get brutally attacked verbally their first minutes here and then told to fuck off and leave. Is this right?
And I'll bet most of these kids are young teens that are just trying to feel like they belng.
It's just out of control and old!

People who barely spell wrong are not the ones that are flamed. This site is specifically a "Literary" site, and grammar is part of literature. People who intentionally act stupid, or are way too dumb to fit in are the only ones that are ASKED to leave. This place is for intelligent people who actually use their brains. We used to discuss interesting subjects, and learn plenty of stuff. One proof is to check this forum now. After all the senior members left or were sporked not ONE subject is thouroughly discussed. This troll invasion caused so many problems and this site is not worth our time anymore. Fuck it!

"People who barely spell wrong are not the ones that are flamed. This site is specifically a "Literary" site"

It is partially a literary site.

"or are way too dumb to fit in are the only ones that are ASKED to leave."

Who has the right to determine who is too dumb to fit in, maybe there a bit slow like I said. And who is anyone to tell someone to leave unless they are an mod.

"This troll invasion caused so many problems and this site is not worth our time anymore. Fuck it!"

I agree trolls don't deserve to be here and are a waste of our time.
But it's the other people that somepeople shun immediately before they get to know them, cause they made a spelling mistake?!

"After all the senior members left or were sporked not ONE subject is thouroughly discussed"

My point exactly not a whole lot of stimulating conversation lately, just alot of ballbusting, hmmm maybe that's why a few old school members left, or was it the stupid redicule other members put on them.
I mean was there really alot of senior members that really left. People do have lives outside of this site you know.

Water was running; children were running
You were running out of time
Under the mountain, a golden fountain
Were you praying at the Lares shrine?
But oh your city lies in dust, my friend

We found you hiding we found you lying
Choking on the dirt and sand
Your former glories and all the stories
Dragged and washed with eager hands

But oh your city lies in dust, my friend

Hot and burning in your nostrils
Pouring down your gaping mouth
Your molten bodies blanket of cinders
Caught in the throes .......

And your city lies in dust

1989 the number another summer (get down)
Sound of the funky drummer
Music hittin' your heart cause I know you got soul
(Brothers and sisters, hey)
Listen if you're missin' y'all
Swingin' while I'm singin'
Givin' whatcha gettin'
Knowin' what I knowin'
While the Black bands sweatin'
And the rhythm rhymes rollin'
Got to give us what we want
Gotta give us what we need
Our freedom of speech is freedom or death
We got to fight the powers that be
(faint voice in the background)Let me hear you say

Chorus
Fight the power
Fight the power
Fight the power
Fight the power
Fight the power
Fight the power
Fight the power
Wheve got to Fight the powers that be.

As the rhythm designed to bounce
What counts is that the rhymes
Designed to fill your mind
Now that you've realized the prides arrived
We got to pump the stuff to make us tough
from the heart
It's a start, a work of art
To revolutionize make a change nothin's strange
People, people we are the same
No we're not the same
Cause we don't know the game
What we need is awareness, we can't get careless
You say what is this?
My beloved, lets get down to business
Mental self defensive fitness
(Yo) bum rush the show
You gotta go for what you know
Make everybody see, in order to fight the powers that be
(faint voice in background) Lemme hear you say...
Fight the Power

Chorus

Chorus

Elvis was a hero to most(3x)
But he never meant, shit to me you see
Straight up racist that sucker was
Simple and plain
Mother fuck him and John Wayne
Cause I'm Black and I'm proud
I'm ready and hyped plus I'm amped
Most of my heroes don't appear on no stamps
Sample a look back you look and find
Nothing but rednecks for 400 years if you check
Don't worry be happy
Was a number one jam
Damn if I say it you can slap me right here
(Get it) lets get this party started right
Right on, c'mon
What we got to say
Power to the people no delay
Make everybody see
In order to fight the powers that be

Chorus

What we got to say
fight the power,cmon(x3)

Punk's not dead
It just deserves to die
When it becomes another stale cartoon
A close-minded, self-centered social club
Ideas don't matter, it's who you know
If the music's gotten boring
It's because of the people
Who want everyone to sound the same
Who drive bright people out
Of our so-called scene
'Til all that's left Is just a meaningless fad
Hardcore formulas are dogshit
Change and caring are what's real
Is this a state of mind
Or just another label
The joy and hope of an alternative
Have become its own cliche
A hairstyle's not a lifestyle
Imagine Sid Vicious at 35
Who needs a scene
Scared to love and to feel
Judging everythng
By loud fast rules appeal
Who played last night?
"I don't know, I forgot.
But diving off the stage Was a lot of fun."
[Chorus:]
So eager to please
Peer pressure decrees
So eager to please
Peer pressure decrees

Make the same old mistakes
Again and again,
Chickenshit conformist
Like your parents
What's ripped us apart even more than drugs
Are the thieves and the goddamn liars
Flipping people off when they share their stuff
When someone falls are there any friends?
Harder core than thou for a year or two
Then it's time to get a real job
Others stay home, it's no fun to go out
When the gigs are wrecked by gangs and thugs
When the thugs form bands, look who gets record deals
From New York metal labels looking to scam
Who sign the most racist queerbashing bands they can find
To make a buck revving kids up for war
Walk tall, act small
Only as tough as gang approval
Unity is bullshit
When it's under someone's fat boot
Where's the common cause
Too many factions
Safely sulk in their shells
Agree with us on everything
Or we won't help with anythng
That kind of attitude
Just makes a split grow wider
Guess who's laughing while the world explodes
When we're all crybabies
Who fight best among ouselves

[Chorus]

That farty old rock and roll attitude's back
"It's competition, man, we wanna break big."
Who needs friends when the money's good
That's right, the '70s are back.
Cock-rock metal's like a bad laxative
It just don't move me, ya know?
The music's OK when there's more ideas than solos
Do we rally need the attitude too?
Shedding thin skin too quickly
As a fan it disappoints me
Same old stupid sexist lyrics
Or is Satan all you can think of?
Crossover is just another word
For lack of ideas
Maybe what we need
Are more trolls under the bridge
Will the metalheads finally learn something-
Or will the punks throw away their education?
No one's ever the best
Once they believe their own press
"Maturing" don't mean rehashing
Mistakes of the past

[Chorus]

The more things change
The more they stay the same
We can't grow
When we won't criticize ourselves
The '60s weren't all failure
It's the '70s that stunk
As the clock ticks we dig the same hole
Music scenes ain't real life
They won't get rid of the bomb
Won't eliminate ****
Or bring down the banks
Any kind of real change
Takes more time and work
Than changing channels on a TV set

[Chorus]

I am actually with BADSEED there - I've seen this happen a few times during my brief time here, and I just don't get it. I do not advocate netspeak, and I do appreciate correct spelling, grammar, punctuation and all the rest, but:

There actually might be people who would like to peacefully contribute to this site, but who might not have had the privilege of education some people here obviously take for granted, or who might be dyslexic. I read somewhere in the introduction section tonight, that if so-and-so was blind he shouldn't be here ... now ... I am going to be nice and not post what I usually tell people of such - literally - discriminating intellect to their face.

And, are the majority of users, who seem to be from the USA or other English speaking countries, aware of the fact that this is an international discussion board? As in, some people here might speak English as a foreign language? And not necessarily be using a western keyboard?

As the saying goes "Engage brain before operating keyboard." I was under the impression that "literary" hat to do with "literature" and not "literacy". In the latter case, this would be a "literate" society ...

About the misspelling of just a couple of words; it has indeed happened quite a few times, but not from my part.
Yet, mostly, people do flame idiots only.

You made a fair few grammatical mistakes(especially constant misapropriation of to instead of too), did you get flamed?
Only people who make completely stupid and/or unintellgible comments get flamed.

Horrorgirl: As much as I like Siouxsie & the Banshees, *blank* and Dead Kennedys I don't think it is appropriate to take up so much space on a thread that is still on track.

While I agree that people harping on spelling mistakes is pretty annoying (especially when the people doing so spell things incorrectly themselves), I have to completley disagree with this "statement" here:
Quote:
Well how do you know they aren't mentally handicapped or something.
To assume that every person that has terrible spelling/grammar is retarded and therefore should be free from ridicule is absolutely ridiculous. The fact is, most teenagers only type "well" for school assignments, official documents and the like. It's not that they're idiots, it is just that such a practice is sadly accepted in most places, so most people do not think to write any other way. Not realizing how lax things were in most places, I started typing the way you see here since the beginning (this is actually pretty casual for me). I am incapable of making numerous misspellings without purposely trying.

For most people, though, it comes naturally, and I'm glad that we're forcing them to conform to our standards of writing; this is one of the few places where I don't have to struggle to decipher every post.

Do you mind quoting it. Who said that, anyways?

Yes, I'm pretty sure they're very aware of that. I live in Lebanon so obviosuly English is not my primary language. Although I was flamed at first, the senior members were very supportive. They corrected my mistakes and taught me a lot of stuff, hence they helped me improve my English. That's why I kept coming back. Anyways, if you haven't noticed we always take it easy on them, but if they're not even trying to improve then why give them a chance?!

People who try their best at spelling do net get flamed, even if they make a lot of mistakes -- it's trying that matters. I've seen people here state that they had almost no education, but that they would try to spell properly, and nobody attacked them.

I am partially with Badseed here actually...

However when I first joined/found this forum I never had a problem as I type properly in messaging/forums anyway but I did notice it was a much gentler atmosphere towards new members, supportive, and genuinely great community with constructive criticism etc.

But things recently have been slightly harsher towards newbs, and noones to be blamed really with the current circumstances with everyone feeling the stress of crap management - the main problem being that it's now harder to tell a troll from someone genuine who is willing to adapt. It's still all good, the flamings been mostly on deservers which is fine, maybe just tone it down a notch

I think slamming people for mispelling a word here and there is just a lame excuse for scorching someone. I tend to type fast without paying a huge amount of attention to grammar mistakes because I am usually in a hurry. I'm not a fucking journalist for the New York Post for christs sakes. So i forget a comma or mispell something S.F.W. Do you not get the point because of a spelling error. Flaming is immature and is becoming a way for newbies to try and show off how fucking unbelievably witty they are.(sarcasm) If someone attacks you or someone is just being a douchepump, yes then I feel it may be appropriate. But It's a waste of time to continually read thread upon threads of people ripping on each other. Correct them and move along. No need for telling them to run into a knife or anything.

Aspendeath writes;
"To assume that every person that has terrible spelling/grammar is retarded and therefore should be free from ridicule is absolutely ridiculous. The fact is, most teenagers only type "well" for school assignments, official documents and the like. Who said that I assumed everyone that had grammar problems was mentally handicapped? It was used a an example.

Horrorgirl, I'm really trying to apply your various song lyrics to any of the threads you post them on, to no avail.
Especially this one if you used your own words to get your point accross you would be much more efficient in getting your point through to us and it wouldn't take up half as much space. Oh but Fight the Power is a classic P.E. song!

Neither are 12 and 13-year-olds who do not complain about having to pay attention to their grammar and spelling.

People do not get flamed for making a mistake or two; they get flamed for repeatedly making the same mistakes over and over again.

Done deal, no one is forcing you to read my posts, so the solution is easy just don't read them. And I think i spend sufficient time checking my spelling, I'm not going to sit and stare for 10 minutes to make sure everything is perfect, what a waste of time. Isn't this site supposed to be the least bit fun? With people jumping on each other for miniscule spelling mistakes it just gets really rediculous.
And your wrong people do frequently get flamed for making one or two spelling errors, go read some of the posts on the introduction threads.

It can be difficult to proof read one's own postings (and very easy to spot errors in others' (genuine or troll-y). I find that with the scripts. The problem is that, in order to keep the flow of a conversation going, it could be easier to not check too thoroughly in order to keep pace (and indeed, your place) in the discussion.

But that's with typos. And as for spelling, well, I remember overhearing this between a classroom assistant and a child in my class...

Child: How do you spell [word]?
Asst.: Why don't you look it up in the dictionary?
Child: How can I look it up in the dictionary if I don't know how to spell it?

I for one wouldn't mind having my spelling errors gently pointed out to me, because they would be genuine errors, not a sign of stupidity, nor an attempt at aggravation. Admittedly, if I keep making the same mistake, I might expect to be reminded - again, gently. If I persisted, one could quite rightly assume that I'm either doing it deliberately, or that I haven't taken the time to read the posts containing the correction. But even then there could be extenuating circumstances....

Plus, the colour scheme can make it hard to see sometimes.

How are you supposed to know that you don't know something if you don't know that you don't know it?

Is there any harm in us just helping each other out a bit?

Unless it's a deliberate trolling, in which case, can I bring the barbecue sauce?

Yup. Far better things to do with one's time and energy. Sometimes I get this mental picture of people sat at their keyboards, seething and foaming at the mouth, just waiting....

Waiting...

...And someone's made a typo... Let the carnage COMMENCE!!!!!

Sorry. Just being silly now.
